Following up on the PostLab trial. https://hedge.video/postlab

Its quite simple and intuitive. All the manual work to upload, download, producing and sharing XML files etc.. is done automatically, plus controls to manage who is working on the project and many more features.

We were able to figure it out in a few clicks creating test FCPX libraries. It feels like a part of FCPX.

Unlike Google Drive where the support team is basically a sales team with zero experience, not even with using Google Drive (No offense to them personally) With PostLab you hear from the support team right away. Even proposing online meeting to help you set up. And they are definitely experts.

Here is the financial part.
If you are working on a small project. (one hour video) PostLab is absolutely perfect. Everyone can afford this.

If you are working on a large project. Then you need a budget. I am not saying it is costly. Considering if you would have to set-up a server or any of those heavy duty setups that require a workflow architect and so on. From that point of view, then Postlab costs pennies in comparison.

If you have a large project, in the development stage, doing it all on your own, then found others that want to help but live in other countries, then this might be out of your budget for the moment. Alternatively you can use the one person level of Postlab project license and work on one episode at a time.

As i see complete seasons of BBC shows are done with Postlab. In my case i am not the BBC. So i have to stick with Google Drive unfortunately.

Quite simple.

1) It is basically no different than connecting your computer to an external drive where you store the original media.
2) The other party has to download the media and keep the exact same structure in their HD.
3) From there on you can exchange XML files.

That is it.

The only thing you will solve with Google Drive, is not having to buy and send by post a physical HD to the other party.

Then you have some sync benefits and that includes sharing the XML files. but you can do all of this with the free version of Google Drive.

Best tip i can give you is to let the upload and Sync finish. Do not by any means loose patience nor try to use other apps to upload simultaneously in order to speed up the upload. It becomes confusing and it will take more time. That is if you are uploading lots of big files.

If you have questions, do not try the customer chat support. They know less then you do. it will take them a very long time to answer the most basic question, they are not trained at all, thereby just google the answer to your questions.

Google Drive however has not satisfied our collaborative editing needs.

I am now taking a look at PostLab https://hedge.video/postlab

And hoping this new app can offer some features. maybe combined with Google Drive.

As you can see we are still in the dark ages of distant collaboration. But compared to a year ago, it is picking up, it is happening, it will not take long before we are all collaborating online.
