Edward,I think it’s sorted now, I also had a crash trying to place Nb titler on the same timeline as a piece of GM. I created a background then tried to place Nb text on it and SvP12 crashed

Hi Rick,
Thanks, point taken, I was just fiddling with the footage,
I duplicated the video tracks, made the top layer the parent.
I used the difference squared feature on the parent composite mode, kept the video level at 100%, on the second track, I dropped the video level to roughly 77%;On the first track I added a touch of brightness/contrast.I used the enable snapping to line up each clip.
