I agree its not of much use. I was trying to debug the problem, not understanding where the error was coming from. I had not found any information about 4K in true anamorphic ratio, only black bars which didn’t fit my project goals so I was curious about why I wasnt able to get a 2160height (4K) and not a 5076width

That aspect ratio is nearly identical to FCPX 5K default setting.

since I’m able to export a 4698×1999 I get all the info I need and Youtube recognizes it as 4K which is important to my client.

I know most people will end up watching on their mobile at 480 or 720 if we’re lucky but at least there will be the option for UHD playback.

Hey Jeff,

Do you know the format you were able to export your larger clips to?

Was it H264 or was it another format?

There appears to be a maximum output width on H264 of 4096×2304

Would you mind taking a look to help confirm the theory?

Tried with fresh everything to export 5120×2160 (FCPX has it as a 5k project default setting) and no luck from direct export from FCPX or from ‘send to compressor’.

I’ve managed to get a 4096×2160 shorter clip successfully exported as well as a 4698×1999 clip but still can’t get anything larger to work.

If there are any other theory’s I’d love to hear them.

I never thought of that. I’ll try with a fresh project/event/clip without effects and see if that’s more successful.

Another update: I’ve managed to get a 4698px x 1999px render to export successfully but anything over 1999px in height has failed repeatedly.

My final video will be under 3minutes so if you’re able to export with that setting and the 10k setting it eliminates width restrictions from possible issues.

My FCPX and Compressor are both up to date and I’m running mac osx el capitan 10.11.2

any ideas of where to start crossing off possible software/codec issues?

I succesfully exported a 4500px wide version which is better than the 4096px. It got to 80-85% easily, the last 5% took about the same amount of time as the first 85% did, slowed down significantly with the fans starting to get noisy.

I’m now testing 4698×1999, currently at 80%.

I’m currently testing exporting at gradually increased file widths. I’m up to 4500px wide and is at about 85% on the progress bar without failing.

I’ll share my finding if that’s helpful.

Thanks for jumping in to help me. Would you know off hand the largest or widest pixel video you’ve successfully exported?

I’m now also trying to think beyond youtube for offline consumption and why I’m seeing failures.

Hi Noah,

I think I may have been unclear in my original message.

To clarify, I’m not looking to add black bars or to matte my video, the raw, out of camera footage is 3840×2160 with a 1.33x horizontal squeeze, 5107×2160.

For some reason Compressor will not process a full res export of my footage. However, if I scale down the export to 4096px (w) then I can get my 2.35:1 as a 4096×1742 file, so I’m losing roughly 20% of my max viewable size.

I’m wondering if anyone else is able to export a video of 5107px wide or if there’s a bug in Compressor that fails projects that are too wide.
