How does this new product interface with current owners/users of Media 100 HD? Is it just a software purchase? If we’re using the current HD boardset and breakout box (along with audio AD-DA’s we had to purchase since it wasn’t built in), how do we utilize Version 11 and, more importantly, what features will we *not* get by staying with the current HD boardset? Are our breakout boxes updatable, or do they need to be updated? If certain features won’t be availble due to current HD hardware/breakout box, will M100 offer some kind of exchange program?
Regarding codecs: according to the tech specs, we can now seamlessly mix codecs in the same SD timeline, where the system’s native 10-bit uncompressed media can be combined in real time with images created with other codecs including Animation, DV, 8/10-bit Uncompressed 4:2:2, DVCPro, DVCPro 50, DVCPro HD and our own 844/X and Media 100 i MJPEG. Does that mean we can *digitize* in those formats natively (i.e. – are they available as selectable formats for digitizing), or merely integrate files digitized on other systems?

Thanks Jeremy… was already thinking along the lines of renting the HD deck to do a layoff. Seems like the best solution for now.
Much appreciation to all, Larry M

Thanks for relaying some real-world experience, Dean. As I mentioned, though, this project is already well underway in M100 and there is no time to start this project over again editing in FCP. The Decklink solution sounds great for the next one, though!
Meanwhile…still wondering about a solution mentioned in my first post in the thread…

Using M100 HD. The 1280×720 footage are extra clips that are being incorporated into a larger M100 project, so to go back and start from scratch with FCP would not be realistic at this point. Letterboxing out of AE also not the proper way to go, as the project is being edited anamorphic 4:3. That’s why I’m trying to figure the best way to get these HD clips, shot at 24p, into a Quicktime file that is anamorphic 720×486, 29.97.

I know M100 is not a good platform for the HVX directly. It’s more of the finishing station, whereby I need to take the 1280×720 24p footage and knock it down (via FCP or After Effects?) to anamorphic 720×486 SD, 29.97, at which point M100 is fine and dandy. It’s the conversion I was wondering about…
Thanks, LM

Thank you Walter, Kevin and Shane…

Thanks Shane and Walter, although Walter’s “Keying is not bad…” response was a bit less encouraging than Shane’s endorsement!
Typically I export out of the timeline and into After Efffects, where I use Keylight and Composite Wizard. I’m more of a Media 100 editor than Final Cut, although I’ve done numerous FCP projects with green keys and the DVCPro50 codec. Where is the 4:2:2 and/or 4:1:1 color smoother filter? Is it applied and rendered to the clip *before* the key is applied, or is it a a final finishing filter *after* the key (and additional tweaks)are applied?
Like Walter, I prefer pulling stuff in 10-bit uncompressed for green screen work, but that was in SD-land… was just checking now that I’m in Firewire DVCPro50 land…

According to their new product brochure, the new systems will support the following codecs: animation, Motion JPEG B, and “DV Codecs” (my quote marks.). Sounds vague… does that mean all flavors of DV codec: DV, DV-CAM, DVC25, DVCPro50, DVCPro100HD??
