    Hi Jeremy,

Original capture size is 1024×768 (4:3). I too wondered if this could be the case so did a test where I letterboxed this on to a 1280×720 Timeline in FCP 7. I then exported this as a 720p (all at 25) brought this into x and bam. Same bloody thing.

FYI I tried the sharpen following you advice but unfortunately it just looks like it’s got a sharpen filer on it. It doesn’t give it back its true clarity if you see what I mean but thanks for the idea.

    Hi there,

Did you ever work this out? I’ve got it right now. A screen capture converted to 422HQ. Clearly works fine in FCP7 with all zooms/moves etc. Get it into x and it initially looks rubbish by comparison. Remove spatial conform and it looks great. Problem solved…. Only no it’s bloody not! Turn on “transform” to scale it and it quite obviously looks like theres a bit of blur added to it. Looses all it’s sharpness completely. I’m only zooming a couple of % so not going mad with it.

Have tested exports and it’s reflected in them. What I see rendered in X is what it spits out. FCP 7 same file same process, fine!?!?!?

I tried this with some go pro footage to make sure I wasn’t going mad and it was fine?!?! No blurring at all.

To which I thought haha – Its the pro res so tried an .mp4 with h.264 and nope. Same result. A bit strange!

  • OK so after A LOT of pain I’ve got it working. For any one else who comes across this heres what to do…

Install ffmpeg by following these instructions:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/291/22

It’s all in the terminal but its not that scary really.

Put the video file you want to use in your “Home” folder.

in the terminal type the following…

ffmpeg -i .avi -acodec copy -vcodec copy .mov

replace the variables and the <,> symbols..

BOOM! Wish I had of read this post 5 days ago. I hope it helps someone in my situation.

    Thanks to all that helped.

    Cheers,

    Lawrie

  • Hi guys,

Thanks for the ideas. Mpeg stream clip won’t do it an pertain doesnt work either. Such an annoying codec.
As ffmpegx opens the file I wonder if anyone knows how I go about operating in the comand prompt to output to uncompressed 10 bit?

All other ideas, including how to get/use this illusive black magic codec are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Lawrie

  • Chris,

Thanks for such a quick response. What programme did you use for this and do you know where the BM codec can be obtained?

    Thanks,

    Lawrie
