  • Thank you for all the information! It’s been VERY HELPFUL!

I tried changing the “Render Multiple Frames” settings and that made significant improvement after some trial and error. My first attempt, I left it at 2GB per core, and allocated 12 cores to AE. This came back with about the same times, and took about a minute to initialize at start. When I gave it 18 cores at 6GB per core, it ran the fastest I have ever seen it with my test comp. Final time 2:43, which still sounds bad, but usually whenever the text is changed, it’s first render out of the change is around 5 minutes. The only time prior it ran that fast is when it re-ran an unchanged comp, which I assume was largely cached, and that’s why it ran faster?

Pulling up activity monitor during render showed about 12 cores running at 65 – 75%. Thank you so much for the help today. It’s already faster than it’s been, thanks to you folks!

  • Thanks for the link Michael. I somehow never knew the GPU wasn’t part of the equation with AE. My apologies.

Thanks for all the help! I had a rogue DNxHD file that I added a couple of weeks ago, and that was the clear issue. Sounds like I need to use Mixdown option a bit as well.

Yes! I had color bars in DNxHD. Thank you!!!! I didn’t realize that would send it with both in the same file!

Thanks! I am re-exporting a new file from Avid for this, and trying that. I had been creating the DVD cuts from the master using QT7. Gonna see if that makes a difference.

In FCPX, It’s under the File menu toward the bottom as “Delete Project Render Files…” Not sure about “Motion”.

  • Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE DVDSP, and have been using it for years. In light of this problem I am inclined to agree with you! However, there are things I love about Encore. Primarily the ability to create DVD and Blu-Ray from the same project is pretty nice, and needed.

Thanks for the link, I will read it and hope to solve the problem!

Well how I got around was to “Delete Project Render Files”, and then (rather quickly) “share” the file via the “Share>Master File (default)” command, or Command+E. With the rogue render files causing the issue, for whatever reason you can re-share the file after using the “Delete Project Render Files” and will create the file, without doing a normal render of the storyline. Of course it does render it in some way, but after export, the “storyline” still appears un-rendered. Doing it this way, has consistently fixed this issue, and given me a usable movie file. I have noticed this is way more common on my 15″ MacBook Pro Retina. I have seen it once on my Mac Pro Tower, but that’s it. I also haven’t seen this issue lately. I hope that helps. There is little worse than completing an edit, only to have an issue like this, especially with no help, and a quickly approaching deadline!

Wow, thank you so much for looking into this like you have! I REALLY appreciate that! I suspect this is a problem just with this camera. Unfortunately, I have to live with it, for now. Taking this one overseas for 13 days, and have no time to sort out this rather odd issue. I am bringing along a separate PIX 240 with XLR in to record audio (and ProRes via SDI) and serve as a redundant recorder, for a super critical shoot in the field. Thankfully, most of our shooting on this trip doesn’t require external audio. Once I get back, I will get with BMD for some solution to this odd issue. I really appreciate your looking into this as you have. Thank you!

The gains being set to match on 1 & 2 doesn’t affect it. If no cable is plugged in to a channel, it won’t add the noise. If you make them match levels, both will have the noise. My rig is basically sennheiser wireless lavalier on channel 1 via TRS, and a shotgun mic on TRS 2. Preferably via Riggy Assist Pre-amp to show levels, but can be done directly with either.
