My workflow goes something like this.

A. edit 1 hr show in Vegas10.
B. render to mpg and ac3 elementary streams.
C. Open DVD Arch 5.2 and select menu based DVD.
D. drag .m2v video file into main menu page. (audio auto follows)
E. rename this clip “play all” and place markers at all chapter points.
F. Save markers
G. drag same clip into main menu, rename “Chapter1” and load markers
H. move Yellow Triangles to mark beginning and end of chapter one.
I. repeat steps G & H for chapter 2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8.
J. Set END ACTION for chapter1 to chapter2, and so on.
K. Set remote button TITLE PLAY to “ON” for each chapter
L. Set remote button NEXT and PREV to “ON” for each chapter.

That’s essentially it. I get the feeling that I’ve been leaving something important out.

Thanks Mike,

The end action for each chapter was first was set to link to the main menu, and functioned correctly in that it took the viewer back to the main menu at the completion of each chapter.

I changed that setting so that the end action of “chapter 1” became link to “chapter 2”, and “chapter 3” to “chapter 4”, and so on. This also functions correctly and links the chapter when playing.

However, neither setting gives me the ability to use the NEXT or PREV buttons on the remote.

It must be something else.

Hint: I’ve never gotten these remote buttons to function correctly.

In the case of a drive being offline, Vegas should have prompted me to search or ignor. In any event, the drive was online and 10d was removed, 10c installed and the project came up without a reboot. 10d was reinstalled and the project was still hanging. Repeated the 10c install, removed unused clips, saved as, reinstalled 10d, all is well with the project, but without hundreds of clips.

I took your advice and eliminated all unused clips in the project and saved it as an alt version. It then did open in Vegas 10d. But since I’m not finished with the editing I now have to forage thru hundreds of clips to re -import them back into Vegas as needed to complete the editing. Obviously one of the unused clips was the culprit.

It appears 10d has an aversion to a file or type of file that 10c accepted. If I can identify the clip I’ll let you know in a follow up.

Mine didn’t after several tries. Other older projects did come up, the current project was by far the most complex in that it had almost every variety of video format, both HD and SD, m2t, mpg, mov and avi. Again, I tried 5 attempts and it would hang at 7% each time.

It was obviously hanging on a clip, no way of knowing which one. It is also a fact that I started this project in Vegas 9, before switching to 10 some time back.

After I reloaded 10c, the project came up on first try and worked very well.

Any way to determine which clip caused the problem? Anyone?

I think I found it. Looks like it is called “BM Desktop video 8” or some such.
