  • “Very little learning curve, so no slowing down…”

    Well put.

  • Sure you’re right – I haven’t really cut in 7 for almost 2 years now but there is no comparison with CC and 7 as far as speed goes. One is 64 bit and uses the GPU brilliantly and the other… well 🙁

  • Thanks for the level headed “this is better than that” debunking. I’ve had tons of fun both surfing and boogie boarding but it’s up to the individual to decide which is “better”.

Thus far there have been no Oscar or Emmy winning shows cut “trackless” while FCP legacy has a stellar lineage of both. In fact one of the more famous FCP duo’s, the Coen’s, have remained track based via Premiere CC.

    So which is “better”?

  • Yeah I kinda agree – for all I like and even love about FCPX, the interface, beautiful “live” waveforms, superfast color controls, great scopes… it’s actually editing that’s the worst feature of all lol. I’m not sure it’s a software companies job to disregard their entire user base and basically tell them sorry, we’ve been screwing up the last 12 years, but we’ve got it right now and we’re gonna tell Editor’s how to edit the right way.

I do think Premiere CC is the first FCP7 worthy successor – I’ve been cutting on it daily since the June release and though it still has some shortcomings, I really like it. Do I wish Apple would have just would have made FCP 8 a fast 64 bit version of 7, heck yeah, but they didn’t, so Premiere CC is second best thing I’ve found. And now that’s it’s only $19 month it may also be the best bargain in the pro NLE arena.

This is not to say I’ll never cut on X again, I have no problem going back and forth depending on the show and even throw a little Sony Vegas in now and again when I need to get something out faster than X or CC can.

Yeah I agree about the new re-linking, so fast and easy – nothing like re-linking in FCPX which requires a lot of manual drilling down before it can actually “search” for a file.

So many little things to like about CC like using the mouse wheel to expand/shrink a track, scalable thumbnails in the bins and hover scrubbing so nice. Above all is just so fast with the right CUDA card.

For the record I’ve tested Premiere CC with a GTX 570 gamer card and the new AMD W7000 FirePro card (on a Win 7 workstation) – the GTX blew away the AMD at less than half the price – this makes me wary of the new Mac Pro which is AMD based, my guess is Apple is going to optimize FCPX for AMD but for Premiere nVidia is still king.

I concur – I’ve used it now on several projects and really like it a lot. While I like many things about FCPX, I’ve found that the traditional source/record and bins/sequences workflow is just faster and easier than the method Apple is trying to get us all to change to. I’ve found Premiere CC to be very fast, flexible and stable and love that it’s cross-platform since my current PC is much faster than my MacPro.

I want live updates of the waveform as I raise or lower levels just FCPX or Sony Vegas – don’t need them , just spoiled by 12 years with Vegas.

But I do like Premiere CC and using it for all my recent work.

Good riddance – he probably does more harm than good with his late night rants and slams of other companies and technologies. I know a lot of folks like myself that just won’t use Red gear because he can be such a bully and a-hole at times.

2 – The audio controls on the timeline are disproportionate, meaning that when I drag the audio line almost all the way to the bottom is -20db from there just a tiny move is all the way down or -48db

One thing I’d like to see with the audio tracks is waveforms that update based on level like FCPX and Sony Vegas.
