Yeah that’s all I could find. Just crazy that the company that gives us After Effects and Photoshop could miss something so basic.

Not sure which year your Mac is but if it’s a 3,1 or later you can ad an off the shelf nVidia card such as the GTX 760 without killing your power supply. Or you could opt for dual 5770’s as Barefeats says this work well with FCPX 10.1…

The GTX 770 works great and much faster than similar priced FirePro or Quadro 4000. There is a 4GB version for around $400.
AMD has the new R9 cards but I haven’t seen any Premiere tests and they seem to be out of stock everywhere but they are faster than the nVidia cards dollar for dollar

This is exactly how I have mine set up – Libraries on seperate SSD and all media on a RAID – nothing on the system drive. I can’t believe how much faster this is than the previous version – the Library thing is still confusing but much better/faster than Project/Event mess.

I would look for a 4,1 (early 2009) or newer Mac Pro. The 3,1 does not have hyper-threading and uses slower, much more expensive RAM.
I’m running a 4,1 dual quad 2.93 with SSD boot drive and off-the-shelf GTX760 and it’s pretty darn fast. Good enough til I spring for the new Mac Pro…

Redcine now uses OpenCL which speeds up renders immensely. Maybe the dual 700’s are the answer?

That’s ok I guess… but I normally stack at least 24 effects on my 6K Dragon footage so FCPX and the new Mac Pro won’t work for me at all.

Yeah I don’t see any improvements in actual editing – other than performance – Apple still wants us to edit their “newer, better” way.
I still believe it’s all a mistake – all we needed was a 64bit update to 7 with some of the sexy charcoalness and I’d be happy. Obviously that’s never gonna happen.
I do think FCPX will continue to be a winner with younger editors who “don’t know any better” and the old farts like myself will keep using NLE’s that make sense to us until we retire or move on.

I guess I still fantasize about interface flexibility and customization, optional tracks? A source viewer that actually has functional reason for being. Just one new feature that would have everyone talking… but nothing… yet…
I get it – everyone is editing wrong and Apple is going to teach us how to do it right – maybe I’m just an old dog…
