Did you try playing the timeline and marking the beat with the asterisk key on the numpad? Seems like a whole lot easier.

This is a complete shot in the dark, but it may be worth a try. On the ASSUMPTION that fewer sequences mean less burden on memory requirement (hence avoiding the green/black screen effect) – and I don’t know that this is the case, I might hastely add – why not create 7 appropriately labeled Bins, move your stills to their corresponding Bins, then delete the subtimelines (sequences).

As far as I can tell, edits and effects that you may have applied to the clips in the subtimeline will remain in the master timeline after you delete the subtimeline (assuming you copied them from the subtimeline, as you say you do). The separate Bins also serves to sort your stills, and you can view their content in icon view, or in the Source window where you can edit before bringing to master timeline, as was the function of the subtimelines.

Try it and see — BUT ON A COPY OF YOUR PROJECT, naturally. And let us know if this works.

Take a look at this post. I’ve tried the black video “fix” but with erratic success. I eventually reduced the size of my stills and broke up the one large project into several smaller ones (each was a distinct leg of a trip.) However, this latter suggestion may not be suitable for your needs.

Here’s a discussion from 2002 which is to say I don’t know whether it’s relevant to PPro.

Try this:

1. unlink the video/audio for the three clips
2. lock the video track
3. delete audio for yyy and zzz
4. use Selection tool and drag xxx audio to end of zzz
5. unlock video track
6. link video (perhaps first clip) to the extended audio

Remember the Program window always shows the frame ahead of the CTI. Thus when you razor at the CTI with the last frame showing in the Program window, you’re razoring the start of the last frame – hence the last frame remains. Move one frame farther (first frame of the following clip shows in Program window) then razor.

A consequence of this trimming mishap often shows up in a transition when the wayward frame unexpecting appears in the transition. It’s more obvious in some transitions than in others.
