Really just depends on if you want to do with your media and how you want to come back to it later…

If you want the ability to search it later quickly and get the most out both programs i would copy the media to where you store it, import to a catalog in CatDV, do all your tagging, and pre-editing, then use the “send to FCP X” option to go to FCP X and do your editing. You can even set up a sequence in CatDV if you want to do a rough edit in there.

But yeah, this is just one way… really depends on what you want to do. Try a few different ways and see what works best for you!

    Nice!

I found a workaround by rebuilding it in CatDV 9 and saving from there. for some reason it let me do it, and worked. nice to know the update will fix this though!

Theres always more than one way to skin a cat, but I have found for my personal workflow importing everything into CatDV, editing, tagging, marking, and even creating sequences, then sending it to FCP X.

    But thats just me.

  • Thanks Brad! Worked like a charm!

Had to search for “:” instead though as that is how CatDV recognized the slash symbol.

    Thanks for the support guys.

I have tried saving to another catalog and no go… the thumbnail import size is set to medium, and i have “generate full size thumbnails from file system” unchecked as suggested…

I will send a copy of the catalog as suggested…

Wow, thanks for the support guys!!

Gerald, good food for thought. i have not had any errors in the transfer summary while doing this that i can think of… but yeah one machine does seem to be a bit more reliable.

Bryson, We all run Mac OS here. The two i work on mostly are 10.7.4. We just updated both the server and CatDV (pro 10) with the latest release when those came out. Primary editing storage is a networked 64tb xsan server, but honestly i don’t know much about it (i think its just a mac pro set up for this??).

    we have 20 licenses.

large amount as in 10,000 and up. I usually create new catalogs to import to when it gets to about 10,000.

OS like i said before is Mac OS 10.7.2, and just opened “java preferences” and it has one for 64bit and one for 32. both saying Java SE 6 version 1.6.0_33-b03-424

    Really appreciate the help guys!

Also, we are going to upgrade to the new Cache-A firmware and hopefully that will fix some of the hiccups on that side. But yeah it does seem like a bit of a workflow issue…. Just wish i could throw as much at CatDV and Cache-A as i have on my plate… Which is about 6 years of projects, files, videos, and other media that needs backed up.
