I’ve never heard of a track matte, could you describe that process? Also, I don’t know what you mean by precomping two layers. Sorry, I’m still learning a lot 🙁

Part of my problem is that I already have a mask on each of these two layers and when I add another mask to each one individually I am not able to control the newly added mask in the way I want to because it is somehow interacting with the previous mask that I have.

Ridley was correct with the stroke and changing the “path” under the dropdown… I am able to do what I was trying to do. Out of curiousity, Vishesh, I really like the line animation you did and it looks like you used a mask for this but how exactly did you go about doing this? (I can’t figure it out by just looking at your file…

I don’t think I follow you… so are you saying that I should put a mask over the line (shape), which is the rope? How does putting a mask over the rope create the desired effects?

Ok, I figured it out.. in case anyone needs the answer after reading this… the problem was that when I went to import the file. I had the checkbox “Illustrator/pdf/eps sequence” checked… when I unchecked this it allowed the layers to be imported to the time that I had preselected in my import preferences. Yay!

I read the above post: timing .ai layers to after effects but still have been unsuccessful. The ai layers are only 2 seconds in duration and I need them longer because they are going to be the background of my video which is 39.15 seconds long. I don’t know what else to do. I have tried changing the composition duration before importing the ai layers (video not imported yet). I have tried selecting the layers and going to time>time stretch and then setting the duration (leaving it to stretch out after the In-point by having “layer in-point” selected)… but nothing works… the first method (changing the composition duration) did nothing and left the layers at 2 seconds. The second method(time stretching) made the duration 6:18… I keep trying to reset it to the duration that I want but it won’t do it… it stays stuck at this time. I am confused and don’t know how to get my ai layers to be the length of the video so that it can be the background. Please help!!
