Yep, you were right. Plus the render time was cut in half, or more by going with the provided template. I had to do some research and found out exactly what +2-3 pulldown is. Good to know that it doesn’t actually degrade anything and is only for adding flags, so DVD players can convert on the fly if progressive playback isn’t supported. I think the real problem was that I hadn’t balanced all my levels out using the video scopes, prior to this burning. Now it looks a whole lot better.
Color correcting using video scopes was something else that I’ve learned through this long format process. I usually do only web video, but am now crossing over into DVD production, which requires attention to detail concerning broadcast legal levels.
