I was actually originally looking at a Panasonic switcher, however after talking to someone at B&H who had one he gave me the pros and cons of the ATEM switchers I got one of them. I think the new audio features built into the switcher are nice. The new layering feature of the ATEM-2 looks good too.

If anything it is good for embedding audio back into hd-sdi for recording. But if you want to travel light you could use it as a audio mixer also (I like having a real audio desk).

    Much of the stuff here

is done via the ATEM-1, I have also switched a couple of live shows and a large funeral with it. It hasn’t let me down yet.

    I have the ATEM-1,

I had a problem with uploading images to it, I contacted support and the Aussie rep got back to me next day. I ended up working out the problem (it was a network MTU issue) so I didn’t really need to go further.

Other then that I just haven’t needed support at all.

I saw one of these at nabshow a couple of years ago, in the 5min i played with it, it looked alright.

I was on the lookout for something for a while, I eventually went black magic, and really can’t fault it yet, it does exactly what it says it does.

Well I got my new Camera, and it is 100x better them my hmc40 as it should be :),

Funny thing is I have to redesign my lighting, or use the cheaper camera for the rest of the year on set because the color reproduction is so much better, it makes everything look different 🙂

    Thanks for the help guys.

We always ran amps at 100%, and made sure the sound wasn’t peaking at ether the crossover (Active System) or put a compressor in front of everything if we didn’t trust the mixer.

And just checked the amps for peaking while the gig was going

We are quite as worried about that in Australia (Aussies swear a lot), but as I see it there is a production quality cost that needs to be dealt with ether by the customer, or the quality of the the final product.

I guess if they want to remove swearing you ether have to make the final product sound awful but muting the music during the swear words or have the customer pay for a separate audio recording for vocals so they can be removed cleanly in post at more expense.

The problem I see with it if the first option is used it reduces the quality of your services, which could later reflect badly on you and your work even though it is the result of the customer.
