That’s the only way I know of, to keep it layered.
CS2 will let you place a layered Photoshop file into another one, and it’ll be linked – but that’s not really the same thing.

Drag and drop the PDF file onto the Photoshop application icon.
Or from within Photoshop, go to File > Open and select the PDF (dragging and dropping does the same thing).

Make a PDF out of Word, then drag that file on top of Photoshop to rasterize it. It should look exactly as it did in Word — you won’t lose the formatting the way you do when you copy/paste.

If you’re able to generate either a PDF or Postcript file out of Word or Excel, you can open that file in Photoshop.

Yes, use software. Just typesetting the UPC will not work because there are different formats, checksums, etc.
We use Barcode Pro – not free, and if you never need it again, not worth it, but FWIW:

You can also make what’s called a clipping group, which is nice because the type can be live.
Type your text.
Get your photo situated in the layer above the text layer.
in the Layers palette, option click on the border between the two layers. The photo should then be clipped by the contents of the text layer.

This method isn’t limited to text layers – any kind of layer can be used to clip another. -
Don’t think that’s possible. I’d use Illustrator, InDesign, or Quark.

Transform Palette > flyout menu > change it from Transform Object only to Transform Both. Should do the trick.
