February 8, 2013 at 4:40 am in reply to: Strange “sub-clipping” of original master clips when adding partial clip to sequenceAnother update…
I was working with out editor today, and the issue happened again…
The issue did not occur when he selected ins and outs of clips, but when he clicked “reveal in finder” and then dragged a clip into Final Cut Pro.
Strange issue.

February 6, 2013 at 10:41 pm in reply to: Strange “sub-clipping” of original master clips when adding partial clip to sequenceHi Everyone….
We uninstalled the CatDV installation and reinstalled it, and the issue seemed to go away. (I will let you know if the issue still exists).
The lesson: If you are experiencing a strange issue that doesn’t make sense, try to uninstall and reinstall CatDV (and upload your backed up preferences file).
I hope this helps someone else.

February 6, 2013 at 5:24 am in reply to: Strange “sub-clipping” of original master clips when adding partial clip to sequenceAnother piece of the puzzle…
To test the issue, we installed CatDV on another one of my computers, created a new CatDV project file, dragged the exact same slip that was being “abbreviated” by in and out points from the original project file to the newly created on, and although the in and out points were still selected on the clip, the entire clip on the second test project file was visible.
Is there a CatDV setting that makes only in and out points of a clip visible?
Our next step is to uninstall CatDV on the original computer, and reinstall with a new preference file to see if this is a glitch…
Thank you for any thoughts or ideas.

February 6, 2013 at 4:19 am in reply to: Strange “sub-clipping” of original master clips when adding partial clip to sequenceHi Again,
I wanted to update you a bit…
I went on CatDV to try and recreate the clip shortening issue when selecting ins and outs and adding them to a sequence, and I could not recreate the issue on a couple of attempts.
When my editor comes in, I am going to sit with him and see if he can recreate the issue.
The issue has happened on at least 10-20 clips, so it is a real issue.
I will keep you all updated.

October 24, 2012 at 6:27 pm in reply to: Achieving the best balance between speed and detail in Verbatim Logger: How much detail and timecode to add in effective logging?Thank you again, Bryson…
I will look at the search filters (and smart folders) and see how to pull up “today’s date” as a search option.
I don’t recall the training videos on the CatDV website mentioning how to search by log creation date, but I will look through them…
We never received training on CatDV, and have learned from the manual and online videos.
Thanks again,

October 23, 2012 at 7:43 pm in reply to: Achieving the best balance between speed and detail in Verbatim Logger: How much detail and timecode to add in effective logging?Hello again,
Just to describe our particle situation in a little more detail:
We have loggers who come into the office to log 7 days per week, 12 hours per day.
After all of the footage has been logged, the Editor, Associate Producer and Producer (who have separate logging tabs created for them), will be able to add their individual notes, keywords and clip ratings.
So, I see the data from the initial loggers on the 500 hours of footage as being searchable data (which also rated by the logger – though a logger’s clip rating is highly subjective and sometimes uninformed), which the Editors and Producers can search through to find their selects.
So, perhaps the balance would be to have enough searchable keywords (and perhaps some clip ratings) so that the Editor/Producer can find footage that they would like more quickly, efficiently and powerfully.
Thank you again for your thoughts and insights.

I appreciate your thoughtful reply.
Your idea is very good to have each logger log their completed clips so that we can track progress and make adjustments if needed.
I know that we can create a smart folder for each logger, and then “select all” of their clips to see the total logged footage hours at the bottom of the CatDV window.
Since we have each different loggers input their name (in a custom “logger name” pull down field), as well as input a log date, how would you recommend a logger being able to easily count their logged clip hours for a day? Is there an easy way to bring up a logger’s daily logged clips?
Thank you again for sharing your advice and experience.

October 23, 2012 at 4:43 am in reply to: CatDV ‘Build Proxy Movies’ does not support or render clips with ‘Apple DV/DVCPRO’ Codec?Thank you for your reply, Rolf…
On my CatDV installation, it CAN create proxies with “DV/DVCPRO,” but not with “Apple DV/DVCPRO”…
Yes, I would be happy to send you a sample of a file…
Thanks for your help.

October 12, 2012 at 10:51 pm in reply to: CatDV ‘Build Proxy Movies’ does not support or render clips with ‘Apple DV/DVCPRO’ Codec?Hello Again,
I opened the same Clipwrap-created clip in Quicktime, and I was able to successfully export and convert the clip into another codec…
So, the Clipwrap “Apple DV/DVCPRO – NTSC” codec clip successfully opens in Quicktime Pro 7.7, as well as successfully converts through Quicktime.
Then, the question is… why doesn’t CatDV support that particular DV codec if Quicktime and FCP do?
I appreciate any thoughts or feedback.

October 12, 2012 at 10:27 pm in reply to: CatDV ‘Build Proxy Movies’ does not support or render clips with ‘Apple DV/DVCPRO’ Codec?Hi Everyone…
Just to update you…
I took the same Clipwrap created DV video file (that had an “Apple DV/DVCPRO – NTSC” codec), opened it in MPEGStreamclip, and then did a conversion to the same “Apple DV/DVCPRO – NTSC” codec, imported that new clip into CatDV, and I was able to successfully create a proxy.
The odd thing is that even though the codec option in MPEGStreamclip is “Apple DV/DVCPRO – NTSC”, the codec displays itself in CatDV as “DV/DVCPRO – NTSC” (without the “Apple” as a prefix in the codec name).
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to successfully create proxies in CatDV of those original clipwrap created “Apple DV/DVCPRO – NTSC” clips?
Thank you for your ideas and help.
