I know, I know… I am talking about a less mobile solution, like as a playing server kind or used in telecine suite.
For acquisition, I hope that single or combined 2.5 inch SATA hard drive catridges storing 2K resolution wavelet codec compressed file would do the magic in near future. Considering people use DVCPRO HD 720p24, which is highly (DCT-based) compressed 8 bit media, as an acquisition format for many purpose right now, 1080p24 10 bit (linear) wavelet codec media will not be too shoddy for various uses. This could be more compact solution than HDCAM SR, if wavelet encoding unit is implemented successfully.
Still, as a not-so-mobile player/recorder solution, Kona 3 equipped Mac desktop is attractive in cost.
