[Michael Aranyshev] “How do I select clips to merge without resorting to mouse?
What is a keyboard shortcut for “Merge Clips”?
Will it always add “- Merged” to my clip names?
How can I control what Bin does the merged clip go to?”

You can create a custom keyboard shortcut for Merge Clips in CS5.5 and later.
There is no preference to remove the word “Merged” from your merged clips, so yes.
Your merged clips will go to the same bin as the source footage. Drag it elsewhere if you wish to organize it into another bin.

If you want a more keyboard driven workflow for merge clips, go to:

    [Franz Bieberkopf] “Hi Dennis,

Many questions. Most would probably be answered if I had my hands on a 30 day demo – so I’ll make that the question to answer”

A trial is coming soon, but we can’t say exactly when right now. Stay tuned. Thanks!

[Michael Aranyshev] “[Dennis Radeke] “This is an Avid feature and again, no – couldn’t get to that one.”

This is FCP Legacy feature too.”

Virtual KEM. Absolutely. We know about that one. I used it all the time on Avid Media Composer and found it useful. Please make a feature request. The more we have for that feature, the more likely it will get added.

  • Thanks guys. This release was a massive undertaking. It’s difficult to get absolutely every feature request into it, as there are a lot! We will continue to take your feature requests into consideration any time. The ones that get the most “votes” are the ones likely to be fixed. Vote by sending in your request. I’ll be asking the community to do this a lot this year! 😉

[Dennis Radeke] “FX Factory built their architecture on Apple’s graphics engine and as a result cannot easily port it over to Premiere Pro. My advice is to tell them you want it for PRemiere Pro. As a plugin company they are dependent on users and host applications like Premiere Pro.”

Right Dennis. The basis for their plug-ins is Quartz Composer. It’s a great plug-in structure, however, it is Mac only. Their plug-ins work in After Effects, but only on the Mac side. You could certainly use dynamic link to get the FX Factory plug-ins into your workflow. As Dennis said, you could write to them and ask them to port their plug-ins to Premiere Pro on the Mac side. If it can be done for After Effects, it certainly could be done for Premiere Pro. However, you will not likely see these plug-ins on the Windows side. I love FX Factory, I really hope they make the move to Premiere Pro some day.

I hear you. No release is perfect, though. We’re working hard to give you top requested features in the past, and moving forward. Since it is a top feature, you can bet it’ll probably be in a future release.

  • It’s only the first tutorial, many are coming. Multicam features include: Easier to set up multicam sequence, and unlimited angles (based on your system). You do need the Multicam monitor up when editing, but you can use shortcuts.

While not perfect, multicam workflow has certainly improved over CS5.5. I’d love to see your feature requests: https://www.adobe.com/go/wish

    Thanks for the comment.

I’d love to revisit my Avid training and actually see if there are things that Premiere Pro can’t do. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any.

[Jeremy Garchow] “The hover scrubbing is awesome.

You can even mark in and out on the thumbnails.”

However, you can’t mark in and out while hover scrubbing. You have to click on the thumbnail first, and then you can JKL/IO. Hover Scrubbing is merely for previewing clips.

[alban egger] “Premiere is clearly not aimed at the Pro market anymore. I read something like a “rolling shutter filter”. I mean who would ever need something that is only needed for DSLR shooters and those with pre-2012 cameras as such.”

No disrespect intended, but a lot of pros shoot DSLR these days. An astonishing amount actually. It was a huge feature request too, and we honor the most popular requests on every release. Just because we have some features for prosumer users, we’re very focused on the pro market. You can see for yourself with a fully functioning trial version coming soon.

[alban egger] “It also only runs on the newest MacBooks with Lion; what should all the big houses with their old FCP7-Snow Leopard-boxes do now? They will have to move to AVID. What a joke.”

Open CL support is just at the beginning. You can expect that we’ll add more cards in the future. Give it some time. You would not believe how much engineering it took just to do what we did. No joke, no joke at all, actually. Serious hard work by talented people.

This is a great release for Premiere Pro. It’s certainly not perfect, no NLE is. If you have a feature request for more Open CL cards, by all means, make a request:
