    HI Whitney..
How are you keeping… ? You are going to need that ADMINISTRATOR password again .. So go into prefs Then Customise Details Panel . Select the summary panel and click EDIT. You will get a two panel window. The left hand side is a list of fields . Click into this and start to type clip ID .. it should locate you to the correct field .. select this and click the right facing arrow which puts the field into the right hand panel . You can drag this up and down to change the order . Click OK and you are done. Clip ID is now on the summary Panel.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Stuart
okay . here been and sort of done that. . Firstly you need to be aware that if FCP is running and Catdv also you can go to the OTHER tab in the CatDV tree you should see the FCP project in BOLD type. If you can then you should CTRL/Click on the project and you get a number of options. Play around to understand whats going on. Probably you will want to bring in all the clips into CATDV. Any metadata that has been added in FCP will also come along with it .
You can save these new clips to the server and they will live alongside the newly logged ones . If you get the right metadata structure . a query will bring both back .. You can manually if desired merge the two clips metadata toghether by copying the clip … and using the paste metadata command in the Edit menu.. you are then presented with a number of options. I think merge will be the one you want . After that .. you could throw away or delete the ones from FCP..
The unusual thing is as you suggest it has been logged after the fact …so to speak . But with a little manual intervention you should be able to bring it all back on track.. In the past I have had to just take what has been done in FCP and make that into the CATDV database. Never stop coming across new problems in this game.

    Hope this helps

August 23, 2010 at 4:57 pm in reply to: Verbatim Logger -> Big Notes Field Possible?

    Hi Keith
the normal notes field like all of Catdv fields are good for 64k of text. As you have noted FCP and its ilk would most likely have trouble with more than that , so we have BIG NOTES .. for all of you who want to type War and Peace into Catdv. Seriously , you may want to just cut and paste stuff across to it as you use the Verbatim Logger . Tip of the day is that you can click into the timecode field in the player and paste or type a timecode into it , this will cause the player to locate to that time. If used in conjunction with BIG NOTES it may not be such a poor implementatiion, just not as elegant as say event markers . Their is of course a bigger picture . All of this text has to get saved somewhere and this is too the server. You could save a text file and make a metaclip ( TOOOLS > Make Metaclip ) and combine or nest the movie with the transcript but just display them as a single object.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Keith

You say you are evaluating the software , if it is the demo from our site..( https://www.squarebox.co.uk ) , then this is save disabled, which may lead to your error. Also have a read in this forum about the optimum number of clips in a catalog. In the standalone version a catalog is a container or folder for the clips in the conventional manner. What is really happening is that the .cdv file contains thumbnails for the clips, metadata and importantly the file-paths to the actual clips themselves. Not the media. It follows then that specifically on the server version that a “catalog” is not actually required as you can query the server to find clips that match based on the actual metadata . These queries can be save, so called “smart folders” . These create a “view” inside Catdv that can be filtered further. As this happens in RAM it is very very quick. So query to bring back all the “project” and then filter on further metadata using groupings or the automatic filters . Un-filter to go back the total selection. You just need to play to get the feel for this. In the standalone world you may need to make smaller catalogs. This points out the need to classify your data in some way . Within this forum we have discussed these issues so have a browse of previous topics. Asset management is a very broad topic 🙂 …
