Activity Forums Square Box CatDV Offline with Sony Petasite

We have the good fortune to use the Sony Petasite for offline storage of our media. Unfortunately, the last two years have pretty much filled up our current machine and we are weighing the options of adding to the device or beginning the process of swapping tapes.

It brings me to the question of the day….

Does anyone know what interface options there are for the Sony Petasite?

Currently we are simply using the FTP interface to manage our offline footage. We only recently found out that the Sony Petasite offers an RPC interface for this unit. When we acquired the CatDV Enterprise Server, it was mentioned that there were some third party vendors that supported offline solutions for the CatDV database.

Does anyone know which specific vendors have an interface for the Sony Petasite and CatDV Enterprise server?

Any insight into how we might upgrade our interface would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I’m looking into the Sony front end. (I made a call today to scare up someone on the Sony team) but Kevin Duggan may be your man for this.

He’s got Front Porch working with CatDV and I’m betting it’s a similar setup.

    Hi Marivin,

Have you implemented an archiving workflow from your CatDV to the Sony Petasite yet? Been working with Matthew Stamos to integrate CatDV with Atempo Digital Archive (ADA). You can archive assets from CatDV (with their metadata) to the Petasite via ADA. This is done by just changing the status of an asset in CatDV to “archive”/”restore”. You can setup different type of archive workflows between CatDV and ADA:
    – archive asset + metadata,
    – archive asset + metadata AND delete the asset from the SAN
    – archive asset + metadata on ingest in CatDV

I’d be happy to tell you about CatDV and ADA.

    Regards,
