    Bob,
Do you know if this also affects the Areca utility?

OK don’t Shoot me! I am sold on the Cache-A, but I think an auto-loader would be a great advantage. Although we are a small post facility we do have over 24TB of storage, and are running 3 concurrent projects. We need to be efficient and comprehensive in our backup solution. I also can not dedicate a staff member to archive duties. Several vendors have called me about this already. I just need some real world solution that works.

What we’ve looked at so far:
    Cache-A
    Promax solution
    LTO-5 Auto loader and BRU

Please comment on theses and any other out of the box solutions that truly work.

The Cache-A was at the top of my list. The last time I had to deal with backups was when I was the production manager for a DVD company. So my technology knowledge is a little behind. What is the difference between LTO-4 and 5?

[AJA Sales Department] “The SSD modules are of course unaffected by vibration, but the spinning units (250GB and 500GB) can be affected by extreme vibrations or high decibel situations where a spinning media would typically be affected by such phenomenon.”

.50 Cal gunfire, Rocket launchers, and being too close to explosions. all knocked the red drive out also. Good thing there is solid state for these situations.

If the KI Pro loses video signal it will stop recording. This is what i see the most. If your video feed is not stable, or goes on and off then you will have this problem.

June 4, 2010 at 8:05 pm in reply to: wiring – license?

A low voltage license is required by almost every state that I know of. If you are doing any kind of job requiring any under floor, in the ceiling, or in the wall, piercing any surface requires a license to do it. (technically) I’ve seen inspectors come in and have every inch of wire pulled out and knock holes in sheetrock. There was even one inspector hear in Atlanta known for getting a hammer and bashing out the sidelite of the door and the glass on the door to chain the building shut. If they say permit, license, then just smile up your price and hire it out.

Bob – Autodesk once required me to get a 1 million dollar liability policy because I was contracting for them, and it cost me less than $300.00. Is Florida that much worse?

I have one on the way. The Hardware is the same as the iStorage pro, Maxxdigital, and others, except they use an areca raid card instead of the atto. I will report back.
