  • I like Turbo.264HD for my .mp4 compressions, it’s very quick and the results are great. I also often use QTPro for conversions to various formats. MPEG Streamclip is also a great tool.

I have Telestream Episode, but honestly can’t remember the last time I launched it – every request for file formats has been filled by the aforementioned.

  • Cool, glad it ended up correcting itself.

  • Where did the .wav files come from? Are they music? Or sound that was recorded in a double system setup? How were they brought into the project originally?

the files you reference are .mxf, you cant import those. – Thats the media that Avid created when you imported the footage originally. Or are you saying “.wav” when you mean audio media in general?

Another issue for you may be that v5.5.3 is not qualified for any OS above 10.7

If you had the 5.5.3.6 patch you would be qualified for 10.7.5

Here’s the link to the version matrix for reference. https://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Compatibility/en267087

Thanks for the info about using AE projects in Premiere. I can definitely see how that would be efficient.

I’m intrigued by your comment about .aep files not working in Avid. .aep files are the After Effects project files. The normal workflow is to render out .movs and import them. I don’t know any other NLE (besides I’m assuming Premiere), that would allow you to import the .aep file directly.

The database files are getting rebuilt each time because whenever you create Avid media the media databases re-index so that your edit system is aware of the new media.

I’m with Shane on this… Don’t worry about them. They’re small files that serve to keep your media current an online for you to work with.
