Thanks for the info Gary, am well aware of the issues with 24p playback on televisions- this is digital only and is at 24p for a reason. It is for the very reasons you have outlined that I posted this question! And yes as someone who had edited on FCP since the days of cinewave I am aware that other NLEs can handle 24p. FCPX being a new beast to me had me worrying that it was treating 24p as 23.98- as we’re both aware 23.98 or 23.976 is frequently called 24p.

    Thanks again for the clarification,

    Keith

    Hi Gary,

thanks for the quick reply, I can actually work at 23.98 or 24 in my Avid (6.5) obviously this is a somewhat new development. I can also view the footage on my broadcast HD monitor at either frame rate (or indeed any flavour of PAL or NTSC). What I am wondering is when FCPX says 108024p if it is doing anything to the true 24p quicktimes in the timeline- ie retiming them in some way.

    thanks for your help,

    Keith

  • yes same problem here, 10.7.5 with latest BM drivers- my comp is a quad 3 tower with a hdpro pcie. I continuously get problems with my main viewer, oddly the correct picture can be seen on my broadcast monitor. when i press play it’s fine, but nudging frame by frame i not only get freezing but sometimes other clips showing. if it wasn’t such a pain i’d downgrade to mc6.

It was user error, which Dwaine worked out when testing my project. had accidentally set the LUT to display rather than output.

Dwaine you are as much a legend as I am an idiot!

Hi Duane, I am seeing the expected grades in the viewer as it is rendering. as mentioned before i can even render the burn ins. but the shots are gradeless. this is why i am confused!

system is davinci 8.2, mac pro 8 core, 10.7.3, gtx285, bm hdpro, 12tb internal raid, etc

    Hi Barrie,

thanks for the reply. I cannot see a check box for render source only? The only source checkbox on the render page is the one above target.

Also might be worth adding that when i hit render- the shot moving is the graded version. I am once again stuck.

Thanks for replying Shane, worked out what the problem was I had chosen 25p rather than 50i- though am sure my monitor handles 25p (panansonic l2550) but will have to check. Quite like CS6 though need to work out why it is continuously crashing on certain bundled plugins- noise and a few others need to start making a list…
