    cheers

I’m unsure if you’ve discovered the answer to this – I have experienced the same problem.

I had a G5 and installed Motion fine. Bought the new macbook pro and motion won’t boot – I get the welcome screen, then choose anything and it loads, shows me the interface for 1/2 second and then crashes out. I’ve got the Motion 2 software but have downloaded upgrades to the most recent version. I really need to work this problem out as I have people interested in Motion work and this is what I got a lot of work through last year!

I was really surprised that my super duper macbook pro was not able to run an older (not THAT old!) version of Motion.

    help!

The audio and video were already separate files – this was definately the prolem though. I realised that this was only occurring after I resaved a fuly finished version in order to make a new round of modifications – timelines whose vid/aud were fine the first time round were suddenly displaying the diagonal lines on the audio track. I solved the issue by deleting the affected audio on the timeline and re-dragging from the imported asset – the vid/aud were then synched – no diagonal lines.

Just wondering if this is a common problem in Encore – that when you make a duplicate of a finished project the timelines within change.

Thanks for your help, definately glad to figure out what was happening!

Ah. But looking at other timelines this is the case with all of them – timelines which didn’t cause any trouble on the previous build.

Scratch that – I’ve zoomed into the timeline completely and the audio looks to be 1 frame longer… how do I fix this? They have been taken from the same timeline in Avid.

    Hmmm…. i don’t think so.

The audio and video are being created together – from Avid, then compressed, then imported into encore.

The difference from the version that worked to the one that didn’t was adding an extra button and importing the new mpeg vid and aud as a new timeline.

mmm…. I DID copy that new timeline and connect it to another button on another page… so two different timelines were accessing the same assets… maybe that’s my problem?

There may have been one frame’s difference in the first version – I did notice little diagonal lines sahding the end of the audio track – but I’ve since replaced that with a third Avid export.

I can’t understand how that would have happened in the first place as they have the same in and out points in avid?

Hi Neill, thanks for that…..it’s almost the answer!

It’s definately got nothing to do with the subpicture highlihgt layer – the highlight is a separate white square coming up next to the text. As I said I’m working in Encore, so I thought I would be using the background from my PSD file ie. created in photoshop so as to retain layer info which makes changes easier later. Would you recommend making the BG as an uncompressed TIFF to import into encore?

I’m a lot more familiar with DVDSP so I’ve learned quite a few tricks to get smooth looking button highlights…….my problem is that the new corporate rebranding for this DVD showreel is black and white…..it can’t be changed. The wheels in motion, things printed etc…..

Font is Arial Black…..very chunky so no issues with it being too fine.

Is there NO WAY to make white text on black BG? I will try reducing the brightness, opacity and saturation in order to get the levels not clashing with each other so much…

    Thanks for the technical explanation.
