There’s always the search engine. I know it says, “Search Posts” but Curtis has set the function to seach posts and/or articles. If you remember the author, you can even seach everything by a certain person. Try it sometime. You’d be surprised by how many tutorials are within the posts. Complete with movies, aeps and the whole thing.

Definitely follow what Ramona says in the post above.
But, I’d like to add my advice to that!
- SHOES:Make sure you have comfortable shoes. Can’t stress that enough.
- literature:Don’t pick up every bit of literature. You’ll end up with a bag of stuff that you won’t want to carry with you.
- Card Swiping:Be careful who you give your card to for swiping. You’ll end up with junk mail for years. We’re still getting junk mail from the time we took our son with us years ago.
- WATER:Keep in mind the weather change from where you live. Everything is air conditioned which is very dehydrating. Drink lots of water. Take bottled water with you if you’re driving. You can buy bottled water in town or in the Food Court.
- Did I say, wear comfortable shoes????
- FOOD:Don’t wait until you’re hungry before going to the food court. The line will be too long at that point. In fact, you may want to avoid the food court altogether by taking snacks with you in your bag. Have a good breakfast before going to the Expo, and then snack on things like energy bars, or fruit and nuts — not the salted kind — they kind you can buy at health food stores.
- BREATH MINTS:Keep in mind that you’ll be very close to some people when you’re watching demos or talking to vendors. Take breath mints with you, or even a small tooth brush.
- WATERLESS HAND CLEANER: Lot’s of room for germs at a show like this. You’ll be shaking a lot of hands. Take the precaution of using some of that waterless hand cleaner or wash your hands often.
- PACE YOURSELF:If the only exercise you get is pushing your chair away from the edit station, you may not realize that you can easily walk several miles each day during NAB.
BREAKFAST, LUNCH, DINNER: Don’t fall for those signs that say “All you can eat for $4.95” The food usually isn’t very good. One of the best buffets we’ve found is the Flamingo Hotel Buffet. Reasonable price and very good food.
If you go with a plan, you’ll be able to see what you want and have some fun too.

Most of the people here have mentioned making good contacts. I can’t stress enough how important “who you know in this industry” is. It’s often not good enough to be a great artist. There are so many really good artists in our fields that Ron and I have gotten to know over the years that write to tell us they’re leaving the field — they just can’t get the jobs.
So, you need to get out there and “network” — Meet people. Join your local users group. Attend a conference if you can. If you can’t afford the classes, try finding the free classes and attend the free expo part. NAB is a big opportunity to meet people.
Get yourself noticed. Come up with some killer technique and write a tutorial for the COW.
Use our demo reel forum. Post your reel and ask for feedback. Use the advice to create a killer reel. Don’t just copy what everyone else is doing. Try to think up something original. You won’t believe how many reels we saw with the George Polevoy “Flowing Text” effect on them when that tutorial was first up. It was almost a rite of passage. A sort of “see, I figured it out.” But most of the reels hadn’t even changed the settings. Ron and I actually saw a title sequence in a fairly big movie that used that effect — unchanged from the project aep that was supplied with the tutorial.

I think that’s a bug. We’ll have to fix it. You can also still get to the AE tutorials page by clicking on the After Effects COW title banner at the top of the page.
Unfortunately, I am no longer updating the old pages — that was the problem. For every article, I usually had 5 or 6 pages that I had to update. This way, all I have to do is worry about getting the article formatted and uploaded.

[Paul Whishaw] “What the heck did the Cow do to the tutorial section? It used to have the tutorials all in one place so you could scroll down the page and find what you were looking for. Now there seems to be some odd search parameters that is making it pretty much impossible to find the tutorials that I want. What happened? Am I missing something?”
The tutorials were never “all in one place” and there were links that you had to click to dig down and find many things which were two and three layers down in the hierarchy.
You only thought that you were seeing all that was in the Cow Library — actually, there was and is three to four times what most people ever saw when sifting through the old gateway pages.
As in most things in life, people get comfortable with what they know and as Ron pointed out, change makes people uncomfortable but it is inevitable — especially when we have so many articles and so few were ever found. (We know, because we can see what pages are clicked on and some articles were never clicked on.)
You mention just wandering around in the articles interface before and finding things you weren’t even aware were there and weren’t looking for. What stops you from doing the same thing in the new interface? You still can. It just means that the buttons are a bit different but there is actually nearly double the articles now available than were available in the old interface.
Oh well, you can’t please everyone and I had to do something as it was taking me hours a day just to maintain and update such a ponderous way of maintaining articles.
