The whiteboard area in my home office has the best kind of space and lighting for these kinds of videos. As I mentioned, behind the whiteboard is a wall that isn’t too uniform, so I like the smoothness of the whiteboard (albeit not its glossiness in this context).

It’s a fair point — another idea I’m considering is replacing the glossy whiteboard with a matte whiteboard, or possibly putting matte posterboard over the current whiteboard, which could cut down the glare. I tried draping a white cloth behind me, but didn’t like the unevenness/wrinkles and the hassle of setting it up and tearing it down each time. The wall behind the whiteboard is uneven in places, and I like the smooth look that the whiteboard provides. So I’m exploring various combinations of pre/post options to see what might work well.

Thanks Dave for the pointer to Rotobrush in After Effects, I’ll check it out. Right now I’m considering different ways to handle this situation going forward. If it turns out to be relatively easy to clean up or at least mitigate the glare with video-editing tools, then that might be more appealing over doing a lot of trial and error with different lighting setups (right now I’m taking advantage of plenty of natural sunlight, which is where most of the glare comes from).
