    Scott,

I’ve never hired anyone, so take my advice with a grain of salt…

First find out who is in charge of hiring at the company. Make sure to contact the right person regardless of your communication method. Don’t send general e-mails “To whom it may concern.”

Once you have established their contact info, call them. Ask if they have any current openings available or if they will be hiring in the near future. Mention that you have a demo available on your website AND on DVD. If they are interested, ask which is more convienent for them. If they want a DVD, mail it immidiately (along with your business card, etc.).

If everything goes well up to this point, get their contact information and follow up with an e-mail. Good luck.

Direct dub from BR-HD50 to DVD recorder. No software or computers involved.

Tried every combination of menu settings imaginable with no luck.

Because of time constraints, I ended up dubbing the footage squeezed. The client fortunately has a widescreen TV, so it will work allright.

From now on if I shoot 24p, I’ll shoot HD and then downconvert so I don’t have this problem.

  • Queensboro is great – I’ve ordered from them several times. VistaPrint (vistaprint.com) just started getting into the t-shirt business, too. Be sure to check out their promotions (Google: “VistaPrint codes”) before you buy from them.

Dick’s column is one of my favorites – I’ve clipped out most of his articles since I started reading them in Videography over seven years ago. Thanks for making us aware of this.

Switching it to “ON2” solved the problem. Of course it had to be an hour after I bought a new component cable…

I’ve searched the menu and can’t find it anywhere. Do HDMI cables carry timecode information?

If I can’t figure this out, I’ll just hook the deck up to the HDTV with component cables.

Check out http://www.queensboro.com. I just received my first order from them and was very impressed.

They don’t charge a set-up fee for most logos and you only have to order a minimum of four items. Great customer service, too.

    Todd,

Have you considered using stock footage?

Digital Juice and Smart Sound are both good choices. Look at their websites and see what they have to offer.

    TaiLese,

I find that royalty free music is easier to deal with.

    You have several options:

    1) Use a program like Sony’s Sound Forge (or Acid) and make your own music with royalty-free loops.

    2) Buy a music library from companies like Digital Juice, Sound Ideas, or SmartSound

    3) Pay per song at sites like Revostock.com ($10/song) or Stock20.com ($7/song)
