  • MANY MANY Thanks. I appreciate the response and the suggestions … others have suggested Magic Mouse so perhaps will test it out alongside the others that work for you. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

  • Many Thanks! Will try that. Another simple but burning question – what is the difference (or is there a difference) between adjusting GAIN and adjusting audio LEVELS ? I see when I adjust gain it boosts the wave on the clip – but when I adjust the level (ie the little white bar on the audio track) – the audio wave seems to remain the same but the sound gets louder. I am presently just doing this during a rough cut for my own sense of how things will sound, but will messing around with one or the other (ie changing the gain vs moving the white line in the audio track)create more work for the person that will ultimately mix the sound? So appreciate you taking the time !

  • Many Thanks for the info. Can someone please explain what the difference is between USB – C and Thunderbolt? On previous posters suggestion I spoke to someone at OWC who claims that a USB -C port can be glitchy with Thunderbolt because they are different technology, but after speaking with Apple they say USB – C is just the description for the port and that they are one and the same thing. I am assuming that you will get no extra speed benefit unless you are using Thunderbolt drives but is there an actual difference or is it just semantics? Also … I am seeing adaptors run from $8 to $30 (all claim USB 3.0 to USB – C) … so how does one explain that? And finally – suggestions for HDMI and card reader adaptors. I am not feeling the love for Apple these days (c’mon .. really .. NOT one or two extra ports for the rest of the world who uses HDMI monitors, USB 3 external hard drives etc …). Ultimately though I just need to edit so do not want to fry my external hard drives and make sure I am getting the best I can out of them while I am working! Anyone out there editing off the new MacBook Pro’s without thunderbolt drives that can chime in? Many Thanks guys!

  • Thanks for your reply. I originally made a complete duplicate coy of all MEDIA as a back up of my entire project of course, but as I broke down and started working on the doc I created sub clips. The PROJECT was backed up every day – but when I checked my duplicate hard drive copy of all my MEDIA I found that the subclips would not relink with this duplicate copy. Even when I manually showed PP where to find the “mother” clips PP could not relink. So that is why I have been looking for some sort of alternate to make a complete copy of the media of my project that is a BACK UP but will link properly to the assets of a project that changes daily. Subclips are just reference files so I have no idea why the references are lost on a separate drive with the same file folder structure and file names etc ….

    Anyone out there have suggestions?

  • Many Thanks to all of you for the input. I will keep going with what I have and deal with software issues until the doc is done. MUCH APPRECIATED! Cheers!

  • Sadly I do not have the luxury of getting another machine …. I bought this computer specifically to edit this doc (and it is just over 1 year old …). Any other suggestions? Or am I a slave to this problem?

Thanks for this – so my question is: when I ADD a label to a clip in the timeline can I also then not remove it? I have been labeling clips in my timeline as markers to find them easily – does this mean I am stuck with them? Thanks!
