  • The original seems to have compression artifacts. What recording format did you use?

That sounds like a pretty sensible approach. Possibly add some particles for the spray if your footage doesn’t already have such.

Are you using the puppet tool? Sort of looks like a misaligned puppet tool mesh.

Yes, there is definitely a problem with the original footage in that it accentuates the edges, making keying harder. If you are going to use a black background, I would just compromise and lose the hair details, darken the shadows in the people to make them look like they belong and be done with it. There may be ways to save the hair details with complex multiple matte generation, but whether it is worth the trouble is questionnable.

You mean the multiple copies of the name?

Probably by using Texture Square as the particle and the text layer as the texture for it.

For preview purposes you could add an adjustment layer with several Change to Color effects on it to change the individual colors. You can copy and paste this layer onto other comps. I wouldn’t recommend this for final, but if you wanted to test the color palette first before going through the trouble of changing everything, it is an option.

You can see what is selected in the shape of the mask points, as in:

If everything is selected, you can click in the gray area outside the comp to deselect. If the bounding box is showing, press “esc” on the keyboard to get out of that mode. (You get into that mode by double-clicking on the mask or by selecting point and pressing ctrl-T [on a PC]. The bounding box mode is good for transforming the entire shape — scaling or rotating multiple points or the entire shape).

Not knowing how the preset has been set up, I would only be guessing at it. Can you post a link to where this specific preset can be found and give its name or description so I know what to look for?

  • Hi David,

To my eye it looks like there is a concentric circular pattern on the moon, sort of like a vinyl disc. This will happen if the two layers are rotated slightly differently. Perhaps a slight rotation of the bottom (color) layer is needed to fix it. Otherwise it looks very good.

  • Not having seen an example of how your images look, my theory is:

    1) You will have to duplicate the moon layer and add a levels adjustment to get rid of anything other than the moon in the background, then use the magic wand tool without anti-aliasing to select the background, select inverse and crop. Then remove the extra (adjusted copy of original image) layer used for the selection.

Now you should have an image which is cropped tightly around the moon on each side.

    2) You can resize the now-cropped image to any specific pixel dimensions. Turn resampling on in the resize image dialog and select pixels as the units.
