  • I can’t quite picture how this has been set up, but if you’re going from negative space to positive with the masks, you may have to animate mask expansion from negative to positive or vice versa.

For what it’s worth, I sometimes use 360 degree motion blur for super-smooth on fast-moving objects instead of the default 180 degrees.

What is parented to what? The image should be parented to the null, not the other way round.

  • Haven’t used Damage, but Twitch at least is all built-in effects packaged into a single, easy-to-use interface, so recreating it with built-in effects is possible for sure, but it will easily take 50-100 times longer to do it from scratch than with the plugin. Personally I would start with something that gets you close, like one of those plugins, and then add your own flavor with additional effects. You woudn’t get that exact look with Twitch anyways, but you’d get 70-80% there.

I’ve never pasted anything into InDesign, so that could be the problem, as the image goes through the system clipboard. Just do it the usual way: save image from Photoshop into a file (psd format is fine) and import the image file into InDesign and see if that comes out how it should.
There are different PDF export settings as well, but let’s take this variable out of the equation first.

Here’s the basic idea with 3D layers.

I guess the long and the short of it is, if it works, it works!

  • If you view it at 300% it will essentially look the same as it did on your earlier screen.

  • I haven’t tried this and it sounds cumbersome, but perhaps if you rotate the canvas (you know the option where you don’t actually rotate it but rotate it fro drawing purposes) and use the hold shift while you draw? I am not sure if the shift-draw angle gets rotated at the same time or not. IF it works, you would have to rotate the canvas between each stroke, so not very useful.
