Okay total work around, I would still like to know what caused this problem in the first place, but if you, like me, get really frustrated not being able to see live updates, you can completely uninstall AE8 and reinstall

I am also having the same problem, I was having a problem rendering and changed some preferences, ever since that the viewer dose not update. As far as I can tell the OpenGL stopped working, AE says that my graphic card dose not support OpenGL, but I have AE 6.5 and 7 installed on my computer and the viewer updates fine. Is there a way to reset AE’s preferences? or run download an update? AE still works, but it is very frustrating, please help. Thank You

Do you mean like the effect used in the new Pontiac commercials? Try taking a picture and opening it in a comp(comp 1), add the Bezier Warp. Set the stopwatch and pull the bottom corner pins of the effect to the top, taking your time and really tying to make the animation look as neural as possible will really make this effect look good; go to the time where you want your transition to end and reset the effect. You may want to add the wiggler to interpolate between the key frames to make it look like the water is randomly moving around as it falls. Make a new comp (comp 2) and pull comp 1 into it, add the liquid effect to make it look like the picture is dripping or smearing, whatever you think looks good. I found a large brush stroke and a the max brush pressure worked the best. Then duplicate comp 2 (comp 3) pull comp 2 into it, add the caustics effect to comp 2. Again this step is a lot of what you think looks good, but I found the following settings made the best simulation; keeping the background the same but increasing the blur, change the water surface to comp 2 increase the water height to around .5, the smoothing to 24 and the depth to 0. I think it looks the coolest with the reflective index set to 2, the surface opacity should be set to 0 as well as the caustics strength. The sky should be se to comp 2 as well, and the intensity should be put to 1. Again this is just what I thought looked good. Finally create a new comp, and put the comp 3 into it along with the original unaltered picture (with none of the effects add to it) and layer it under comp 3. It might not be as good as the music videos and commercials, but it’s a start, as usual if it’s a little messy you can always add a blur.
