  • My .DAT file contained 230mb of info. This means it has something in there to be recovered, zero Kb means there is nothing to rescue. That software I used to recover the file is Grau GmbH video repair. You first download a trial version to see if your file is “rescuable”. It will rescue 50% of the file, upgrade by paying around of 35€ and you will be able to rescue 5 video files. This is the lowest cost I found.

    I was filming with a canon 6d when it just shut down while shooting. The file appeared as a .DAT instead of .MOV.
    The cheapest way I managed to fix this was with https://grauonline.de/cms2/?page_id=5 video repair software from Grau.
    The cost was 35€ for repairing 5 files. It did the job perfectly, the file has been recovered and I could use it for the edit.
