Just wanted to update all of you that helped me out. Spoke on the phone with Apple Care FCPX specialist and after creating optimized media of my clips, generating a new user, reinstalling the OS and creating a partition and doing a new install of the OS, every time I leave a series of videos exporting for say more than an hour (without moving the mouse or doing anything active on the computer), the library gets corrupted after completion of the exports.

I am going to send this report to the Apple Care specialist and report back here if there are any news. Thanks so much for your help.

    Cheers,

    Juan Luis

I can get some from crucial. You think apple may replace it if I inform them of all of these issues?

Hello Brett, an update: I opened the damaged library, selected the project I wanted to save, clicked on File, copy to a NEW library and after I selected OK, I got spinning beach ball and the app hanged. I eventually force quit the app.

What do you think the problem could be? I am mystified. Thanks

It’s actually apple ram. Mmm, the plot thickens.

Haha, well if Ripley suggested it, I guess I should do it then 🙂 Thanks for the suggestion though man… it is an option I may do once I finish this deadline.

UPDATE: I left another HDV project exporting overnight and before I quit the app (Which had been one of the sources of corruption in the past), I decided to purge the RAM from my computer (via an app called Memory Monitor) and when I quit the app, it closed fine and after I reopened FCPX, no signs of corruption.

Is it possible that this was a RAM issue?

Hey Bret, thanks for responding. Do you mean to open the corrupt library, drag the projects I need to a new library and then click the consolidate command? Two things I think may be a downside though I am willing to do this if it fixes the issue:

    1. Wouldn’t my storage space double in size? I currently have a referenced library, not a managed one.
    2. When I try to drag and drop the needed projects to a new library, the corrupt library hangs and can’t move/copy the project to the new location. Any work around that? XML Import screws up all of my color corrections.

    Thanks

  • Great advice Andy Wilson. Thanks

  • Hey Andy, thanks for your advice. I trashed prefs, nothing special about audio (48khz, 16bit), project and multicam settings were the same and no luck. I then tried to export a small range from the middle of the multicam and Export gave me a video of ALL the clip, as if it didn’t respect the range selection. I got this problem TWICE. So, I decided to reinstall FCPX (a colleague gave me the installer and since I don’t have his apple id and password I am stuck with a fixed version of 10.0.5… could that be the problem?) and problem was still there.

I was able to solve the problem by deleting my multiclip, creating a new one with 2 out of the 5 angles and then manually adding each extra angle and “syncing to monitoring angl”e until all 3 video tracks and 2 audio tracks were in sync. It now works and both the multiclip video in the event library and in the angle inspector match. Thanks a lot for your help and suggestions, it was very valuable.

Final question: I am doing multicam editing with one audio track but I wanna use both audio tracks to cover both the interviewer and interviewee. To do that, do I need to manually import the audio clip and position it underneath my multicam edited clip or is there a more automatic way to do it? Can I live switch 2 independently synced audio tracks to the switching video?

    Thanks again

  • Hey Andy, thanks for the response. I actually trashed system prefs and reinstalled the program and the bug was still there. I think the problem may lie in the fact that a colleague gave me the installer for FCPX but since I don’t have his apple id and password I can’t do software updates on it, which means I am stuck in a fixed 10.0.5 version. Do you think this could be part of the problem? I could just fork the $300 and get my own version of the program… would that change anything?

    Thanks
