Yeah I’m definetly going to be getting a DSLR probably the 60D at this point. I have an XH-A1 which I still use for a lot of shoots but I’m pretty unhappy with it’s lack of DOF and the overal image quality in some areas. True I could get a DOF adapter for it but that would be a couple thousand and then another couple thousand for a lens. I think it’s going to be the 60D

I think I’ll stick with FCP 7. I’ve used premiere on A couple of jobs and like it just fine but I really like FCP multicam.
I tried using compressor 4 and Qmaster running 4 instances, one for each core on my quad core but it still would have taken an interminable amount of time. So I went back tithe raw MTS files and am now using clipwrap to convert to prores proxy. It does an hour of footage in about 55 min so much better than compressing the h.264 files.I’ll cut it with the proxy files and then reconnect to the h.264 files at the end

Sorry to hear you thought my comment on my own post was inappropriate and not helpful. I was really only trying to say that although I would love to use FCP X , I can’t wait 4 or 6 months as was suggested for it to have multicam. Wasn’t trying to be a hater on my own thread. I do appreciate your advice though. Thanks -

Yeah that is a good point. Ok FCP 7 it is. I’ll just bite the bullet and get some more storage, storage is cheaper than dirt nowadays anyway. Maybe I’ll spring for a G-Raid thunderbolt setup. Thanks for the advice all

Why? Can you elaborate a little. I know FCP X has a stigma on it of not being pro ready and I agree for to a certain extent. I just think on this job it might be the best option

Yeah. H.264 won’t work at all for multicam with FCP7 it just crashes. I thought that might happen but wanted to give it a go anyway. I might edit in FCP X, but there is no multiclip. There are some workarounds I guess. I tried converting all the footage to prores proxy using compressor but that wouldtake 11 days even on my 3.1 ghz i5 quad core iMac with 12gigs of ram.
I figured out if I use clip wrap and the original MTS and M2T files I can convert to prores proxy in just under real time. So about 22 hours.
Or I can just use FCP X, which I am considering doing, but then I won’t have the plugins I have for FCP 7. choices, choices -
Yeah I would use clip wrap. I have the same problem with HDV m2ts. I have 22 hours of m2t from a five day shoot. First I rewrap them using clipwrap which is considerably faster than mpegstream clip and it makes them 1440×1080 HDV quick times.
But I need them in h.264 1920×1080 so I am using compressor with 4 instances running on 4 cores and 12gigs of ram. It still takes forever. 1 hour of footage takes 2 hours to convert. HDV and H.264 are not friendly codecs.
