    Thanks for your reply, Mark.

I’m afraid I’m not sure what you mean by “silk” – although as far as I’m aware, it’s just a tiled ceiling with no lighting equipment at all, certainly no grid on the ceiling or behind it.

We only have 3 x Redheads at the moment, what would you suggest we do to light the background? Would it be ok if we didn’t light it, just lit the talent?

    Thanks for your help!

    Josh.

    Hi Bob,

You are an absolute hero. Thank you so, so much! This has worked perfectly.

I’m sure you’ll be rewarded with endless cookies and doughnuts in heaven. But in the meantime, if I ever meet you, I’ll be sure to buy you plenty!

    Thanks again.

    All the best,

    Josh,

November 10, 2012 at 3:50 pm in reply to: Really confused about DSLR bitrate/quality…

    Thanks for your reply, Peter!

I didn’t think the RAW setting woud make any difference, so thanks for confirming that.

Perhaps I don’t fully understand what bitrate means, then… why do people say that the 550D records in 40Mbps (I also read that the 7D records in 48Mbps), but when I look at the footage, it shows only about 3-5Mbps? How do I get clean 40Mbps footage from the camera using an SD card? It certainly does not look like 40Mbps quality when I watch it on my iMac! When I compare it to XH-A1 footage (25Mbps), or footage from an XDCAM (50Mbps), it looks far, far poorer quality. There is much more detail in the other footage, even in very good light and perfect ISO settings. So are you saying that the 550D records more Mbps than an XH-A1, and nearly as much as an XDCAM? Is that right…? Because that’s not what I’m getting.

I didn’t think that DSLRs could record in such high Mbps – surely that is what the bigger TV cameras are for? I would have thought that DSLR bodies just don’t have enough “power” in their system to record in high Mbps.

    Am I missing something here?

(Also, I don’t usually upload to YouTube in more than 8Mbps for HD – see here: bit.ly/v35c5y)

    Thanks again.
