Sounds like it might be an HDCP issue. What graphics card are you using?
I have had some success with Geffen HDMI Detective and my MacBook Pro which was having a similar problem with the HMX100.
Good luck!

October 27, 2012 at 5:30 pm in reply to: Panasonic AG-HMX 100 not accepting digital MacBook Pro inputI’m not sure exactly how it works, or even that Apple is implementing the standard as it was intended, but I have experimented with multiple HDMI devices and I can share my experiences.
As you know, when you connect an “HDCP compliant” device like the HMX100 to a MacBook Pro the image from the computer appears for a spit second then goes black. The same thing happens with BluRay players and a PS3 but NOT w/ prosumer video cameras. .
So I tried the Gefen HDMI Detective and it works on the MacBook Pro. I then plugged in the BluRay player (without a BluRay Disc!) and I see the player’s welcome/menu splash screen in the multiview monitor. I popped in a commercial BluRay, hit play and the screen went black.
We never had a problem with our 2011 Asus 17″ notebook using the HDMI output, but we got a newer model w/ NVIDIA graphics and I have to use the Geffen to get it to work with the HMX100.
I am using a late 2008 MacBook Pro w/ Apples’s Minidisplayport to DVI adaptor, your mileage may vary.

AJ,
I ran into a similar problem. I just assumed that changing the Video Format from HD to SD (which enables the composite inputs) would somehow enable composite video outputs. I was wrong.
When the video format is set to 480i (SD) the SDI outputs send a standard definition SDI signal. Same pipe, different signal, won’t work with a NTSC composite input.
The specs say the Advanced reference output (ADV-REF) is a 75 Ω BNC Analog composite signal Sync: 0.286 V[p-p] (NTSC)/0.3 V[p-p] (PAL) Burst: 0.286 V[p-p] (NTSC)/0.3 V[p-p] (PAL) so I can see how someone could read that as the unit can output NTSC video.
But, the advanced manual says, “this unit is also equipped with the ADV-REF (advanced reference output) connector to output the reference signal with the vertical phase advanced for the input source. This reference signal can be used to minimize the delay of the output signal caused by the system.”Short answer, no NTSC Composite Video output from the AG-HMX100 as far as I can tell. If anyone can prove otherwise please let me know, and I hope that helps someone, even if the reply is late.

Component to SDI:
I haven’t used this model, and most of the other converters are at least $600, and you get what you pay for, and your mileage may vary.
Good luck,

@Kevin – The BNC output of the Canon XHA1s is analog NTSC. You will need to connect the BNC cable from the video output of the camera to the Video 1 or Video 2 input on the Panasonic AG-HMX100. These inputs only work in SD mode, which you can change in the setup menu. Setup, Rotary 1 to Video Format, Rotary 2 to 480.
@Dan – You assign the audio in the setup menu. Setup, Rotary 1 to Audio Video, Hit Enter twice. Assign Input 1 to the Video Source you want with Rotary 3 and 2 and the Audio Source you want with Rotary 5 and 4.
I had trouble changing inputs 3 & 4 because the default is SDI 3 and 4 respectively, you have to change Rotary 2 to a value of 1 or 2 before you can change from SDI to HDMI because there aren’t 3 or 4 HDMI inputs.
