Sure looks rotoscoped to me. Generally speaking, where artisic endeavor is concerned, “easier” isn’t the first thing which comes to the artist’s mind. It’s usually the artist copying the original consept who wants the easy way to go. Don’t take this as an insult please…just a guideline to show you that the easy way will not develop your skill in After Effects. Dive in and and do the work required to become experienced.

Well put. I have a former client who, after several rounds of attempted knock downs in my pricing, decided to go the “cub scout” rout. Instead of hiring me to do custom motion graphics work, he hires a young guy for half my price – the funny thing about it is that the young guy is using AE templates that he buys for 10 to 15 bucks on various online sites, marks them way up for my former client, who then passes it off to his client as custom work!
I only know this because I asked my former client if I could see the “concept” he was buying. He showed it to me, and I quickly found it online for about 10 bucks. I told him this, and he immediately asked me whether he could buy the template and do it himself, thus cutting out the “cub scout”. At that point, I told him I wasn’t interesting in joining a race to the bottom, and that he could figure it out on his own. I haven’t heard from him since, but I do notice that he goes from client to client, basically doing one job, then getting dropped. Luckily for him he has a big market to bottom fish in.

Try opening the Effects and Presets window – that sometimes needs to be done to get them to show up. If not, try moving the Presets folder in the same way you moved the plugins; that may do it.

Red Giant plugins have a history of install problems. They don’t always play well, especially if you’re not installing to the C:/ drive. Here’s an FAQ from RG:

When I switched to a new workstation, and had to reinstall the RG suites, I had random problems – some of the plugins installed correctly and some didn’t. I had to go to the C:/ drive, and move some of the plugin files to the drive I had Adobe After Effects installed on. It can be a pain in the neck!
You may need to move the plugins from the Common folder to the After Effects/Plugins folder (or whatever your particular machine is using. Try one of them, see if it works, then move all of them. Good luck!

Yes there is: Adobe Bridge. As Art Director at an ABC affiliate in New Hampshire, I was in charge of digital assets for News, Commercial Production, and Promotions.
I used Bridge to manage upwards of 300,000 files of all sorts – graphics, audio clips, projects (AE, 3DS Max, Combustion), scripts, and footage. It worked beautifully! I could put my hands on a commercial project we had done a couple of years ago in seconds! Here’s an article I wrote about in for the COW a few years ago:

I’ve had very good luck using footage of real water, and then creating a Displacement Map, using the water footage for the map, to distort the logo:
