Read the entry on Wiki, especially the sections on “Belief Disconfirmation”, “Induced Compliance”, and the “Free Choice/Effort Justification” paradigms. Yes, another internet psychiatric diagnosis, but a lot of it seems pretty familiar. Especially the passages related to financial rewards for those who choose to continue and/or promulgate an idea they know to be false. This actually stems from a related search I was doing to find out more about partisan politics and the IRS.

My hope is that an expansion chassis is as beneficial as the cards housed in it, and those can be changed as technology evolves. So if two Titans equals 4x690s, then does 4 Titans = 8 690s? I don’t think the math works that way, but 8 GPUs would always be a non-starter for Resolve/Mac no matter what, so the expansion option should remain a viable option for massive processing for some time.

You should be able to drill through the stills browser into the original project, and then copy them into the new project. If you chose to create a new timeline within the original, then ColorTrace would no longer be an option, since it is in a sense a redundant operation given that “remote” grades can be applied automatically through the Master Timeline. I’ve used stills from other projects often, especially with series and anthology work which often shares clips, or related takes that benefit from a grade created in another session.

“Stills” in the context of Resolve, refers to reference frames used for comparing color treatments. like the stills you grab from the source footage to use as guide and grade storage.

Not as active source media — as the grade application, at least up to this release does not support graphic media on the timeline, such as tif, tga, png, jpg, &c., except as image sequences (dpx workflow) which you have observed and is the native behaviour.

If you were really aiming to use an ACES workflow, it would make sense to jump through all the flaming hoops that the film/DCP target space would require, but given this source format, as Mike suggests, won’t give you any more room than you already have without re-processing the values all over the place for no compelling reason. If the transforms are not dead on, it is worse than wrong, its a waste of time and undermines the entire effort.
