Or you could ask for permission from the producers. Sometimes they are flattered.
If there is a distribution deal in place where they might have to ask permission from the current window-holder, then that is another issue. Usually an exhibitor is happy to get some extra coverage and exposure if it promotes the work in a positive way. “I am proud of the achievement. Here, have a look!”
But there are also NDAs and the like to worry about, so as an employee of a post house, you may not be entirely aware of the service contract in place between the agreeing parties. “Fair Use” in a broad sense, usually only applies to news and documentary to cover incidental inclusion. its not for nothing that teams of roto workers are busy erasing commercial logos from everything that is being shot, and that a distributor will not touch anything that doesn’t carry E&O insurance.
And its a constant bug in a number of people’s bonnet that you can never be entirely sure what constitutes “your” work (substantial alteration) in a demo.

Suspicions are coming around to memory. I started getting these a while back — at first one suspects a lot of things — I had a second unrelated license dongle installed (for MacCaption) which, when removed, relieved the crashing for a day or two — then I started running into dialog cautions that I was exhausting the available GPU memory, and then I had a DIMM failure.
Resolve rides all your ponies HARD. Some of them pull up lame… most of the time I wondered if it was something to do with trying to crowd too many frames through with abrupt timeline navigation, but I’ve had application halts (not a system-wide crash) simply in “Play”. One thing to check… if you get the beach-ball of death, try to open the Mac system bar at the top of the screen by opening something like Time/Date preferences. Drag it to wherever your application task bar is, so you can hop to the task bar without crossing the Resolve GUI–bottom screen or left/right side screen — and if it opens, right click on the Resolve icon. It will likely be in “Application Not Responding”. Often a “Force Quit” will let the system bail out and you won’t have to do a complete restart. Of course you will lose everything since your last SAVE operation, but… anyway, that’s another discussion.
Run the CaptureLogs application right away. Do not allow Resolve to restart or the diagnostic dump will be refreshed and if there is something panicked in the stack it will disappear. Send to BM.

Not really the same as vinyl vs. CD and tubes vs. transistors… does anything beat a Marshall valve amp? No. Can you get sustained fuzz feedback though your iPad? Not sure I want to try that.
For uprez, transcode and so on, can you beat a Teranex? No, in terms of price, efficiency and quality.
But most hardware for video, these days is totally outclassed by software solutions. The threshold occurred about 15 years ago in major markets, and 7-8 years ago in secondary markets.
No one that I know would be remotely interested in correcting anything on an 8:8:8 anymore, unlikely even with a later model 2K+. And you wold be judged insane to suggest a Dubner. The other issue is that most hardware solutions started dying out with the advent of HD — some were built, but the die was already cast in favour of commodity PC-based processing.

I don’t know about that. Every sensor, tube, emulsion, whatever has its sweet spot where you want the image to live. They all have a toe/shoulder failure or rolloff and nothing is ever, ever linear. There’s another thing about optical physics, which is depth of field. That depends entirely on your aperture and exposure. Unless we have z-depth focus mapping imbedded as another layer of metadata, I for one would rather see shallow focus in-camera than a bunch of piled-on blur FX.

It actually does these things in the COLOR timeline page. It will use either imbedded alpha, an external matte (hicon movie) or you can create an HSL qualifier and port that to the layer output (add/send alpha) to reveal the layer(s) below.

This would be one of the dangers, then, as the UI is not showing you Rec709 calibration if the rendered and roundtripped media mismatches outside of the Resolve interface. Between my SDI Flanders grade reference and the preview — almost never the same, especially since I abandoned the notion of ever getting anything meaningful on the Apple Cinema Display that I use for the main UI. Even “calibrated” with the advanced setup routine under the OS – not even close. Just a totally different beast, horses for courses.

What do you mean by “resolve monitor”? Surely not the preview pane in the UI?

It does seem to be a timeline navigation issue. Been chasing it ever since R10 arrived.
I did a job in R9 installed on a separate boot drive with no issues.
