It’s something else entirely, I don’t think it’s because of unrendered clips. It looks like the script is pointing at some components and extensions, so I would check those out. It could also be a system wide problem, such as the health of your RAM, RAID, harddrives, etc.

I think Brett is right: check to make sure your stills are at the right dimensions.

Is it crashing on the same clip (w/plugins effects etc) every time? It could be the plugin or effect is corrupt? Are you allocating enough RAM to FCP? Have you watched Console as you render to see if anything jumps out when it crashes?

Check to see what the audio specs are in your sequence settings. There is a chance the k and bits don’t match up? Also make sure the settings you want are set before you import the audio files in FCP – it could be coming in in the wrong framerate.

Reset the monitor to default settings across the board. With default, you will already see a difference between your computer monitors and your broadcast monitor. Calibrate your broadcast monitor display using color bars coming out of FCP. Google it, there are lots of tutorials about how to do this.
With everything plugged in, go to View/External Video/All Frames. Then in the same place Refresh A/V Devices. It should auto find your monitor. Otherwise manually choose it. Make sure you choose the correct settings for Audio Video Settings/A/V Devices/Playback output. If you are running audio out of the decklink separately to a mixer and speakers, you may have to go to System Settings/Playback Control and offset your frames so that audio and video are synced. -
First off, getting it right in camera is always better than a smoothcam plugin. There are going to be little things that aren’t very easy to fix, such as your footsteps problem. The computer is going to interpret footage in certain ways, and doesn’t always get it right. You can try After Effects or Motion and manually center the shot frame by frame? Or just cut the offensive part altogether and think of something else? Or just live with it?

Steve’s right, use Standard ProRes. The Canon 5DMKIII is still highly compressed video files, there isn’t really enough info there to warrant using HQ. I would bet that you won’t see the difference between the two codecs. Standard ProRes will give you great quality, but without the file size and data rate of HQ.

Hey Pratul, there are many many posts about this topic in the Cow. Basically, your media and render files are read/write intensive, and it is common knowledge in FCP that those files be kept on an external drive so it doesn’t overburden your startup disk that controls your OS and applications. Keeping your project file on your startup disk is fine. Depending on your computer, codec, external drive setup (RAID?), and connection options, in most low level cases you shouldn’t have any playback problems. When you get into hi res pro codecs, full HD, complicated timelines/graphics, etc, you need higher I/O speeds.

I am an avid Intuos 4 tablet user for NLE, AE, Photoshop, Illustrator work. I love it! Holding a pen feels much better than the mouse, it’s more natural, and less clicking and more intuitive movements I think is best and more ergonomic. The Apple magic mouse is beautiful, and I love the touch interface on it, but it’s far from ergonomic and doesn’t even cradle your hand. I use the mouse when I’m typing (adding notes in the Browser, Word, Excel, etc.) or surfing the web. Everything else is the pen and tablet. I use the medium sized one, it’s perfect for me.
On the pen, I have one button set for right click, and the other for scrolling. Makes scrubbing down timelines a breeze. And of course coupled with a keyboard and shorcuts, you will be working very fast.
It does take some getting used to though, but it won’t take long.
I’ve been playing around with the new Intuos 5 and it’s touch interface. Similar to using a Magic Trackpad or a Magic Mouse. Trying to teach my fingers to dance has taken some time. I find that the double tap everytime you want to scrub the playhead or grab a clip to simply move it is counterintuitive. But with time I’m sure anyone can get used to it. However, the biggest drawback from the touch interface is that your fingertip is less accurate than a pen tip I find. Moving a clip or length of a clip a few frames is not very easy with your fingertip. It’s fast and pretty accurate with a pen tip though.
Highly recommend the tablet/pen setup, your wrist and hand will thank you.http://www.tulpapictures.com

At the time of this original posting in 2010, no I didn’t find a solution. However, a while later I had a different problem with frame rates being incorrect for stills and audio and I came across this article by Matt Lyon:

This is likely the culprit, importing assets incorrectly into FCP (I’m usually very conscientious about this, but sometimes you forget to set your sequence and capture settings properly after you have to do the inevitable pref trash…). If you don’t signal FCP to import at a specific frame rate in sequence settings, your stills and audio come in at default or what was set in a different previous project. In my OP, I did notice that the PNGs were reading as a different frame rate from my project settings, but at the time I didn’t think it was a big deal. I’ve changed my practices since then.
