As your “Video Preview window displays a split-screen preview (so you can monitor frames on both sides of the edit point)” in addition to the A/B roll, you probably accidentally pressed 5 on the numeric keyboard (or double-clicked the event edge) and got into Expanded edit mode.
From online Help: “In expanded edit mode, a red bracket is displayed to indicate which event edge will be trimmed, and the track is displayed in an A/B roll.”To exit Expanded edit mode, do one of the following: Choose “Edit” > “Select” > “Exit Expanded Edit Mode” or Press 5 on the numeric keypad or Double-click the event edge or Press Esc on your keyboard. To avoid it, do not press 5 on the numeric keypad (or double-click the event edge)…

Richard’s advice is valid, if you are in Expanded Edit Mode (If a red square bracket appears at the end of one of your video events then you are). Otherwise try Ole’s suggestion.

Open the pull-down menu of the Views button above the Project Media window by clicking the arrow/triangle next to it and deselect Media Tags there.

Actually I cannot still straight out upgrade my [(Sony) Movie Studio Platinum 13] software to the current [MAGIX Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14] version and take advantage of discounted upgrade pricing using the first link provided by Eric Dettman above. It still offers me the rebranded version 13 and I need to contact the MAGIX customer service team.
