  • Chart for rendering settings

Posted by Linda O’connell on November 6, 2017 at 2:35 pm

For the past 10 years I have been using a chart that shows what settings to use when making a DVD based upon length of the project.
I have had it sitting here and now it has disappeared!
Does anyone know where I can get a copy?

[Linda O'Connell] “Does anyone know where I can get a copy?”

I don’t remember seeing it, but was it John Meyers DVD chart? I’ve had a trawl of the Vegas forums and can’t find it. I’ve been using Marks Bitrate calculator which is real-time calculator that’s held me in good stead over the years.

Yes, it seems John Meyer’s chart links there do not open any more, but here’s “Mark’s DVD BitRate Calculator” https://www.johncline.com/bitcalc110.zip

Yes, I believe it was John’s chart. But I can make the other work. Thank you!

Sure. It’s very easy to get results and the tweaking is superb. Having done some further research, Johns chart may have been a Spreadsheet? Yes?

    Hi Jorma

Do you still have the old or broken link(s) ?

Francois, the links are in old SCS forum threads archived on https://forum-archive.magix.info/home. Searching there (Words) calculator and (User) johnmeyer returns 100+ threads starting from 2003 (https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/help-on-mpeg-2-encoding-to-dvda–15972/).

Many later threads also with the same link and another link from 2011 https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/dvd-capacity-vs-bitrate-calculator–87421/. There may be a couple others, but none of them worked or gave the right file (the spreadsheet Graham mentioned) even trying with Wayback Machine.

    Hi Jorma

Thx Jorma ! To bad some good stuff gets deleted.

Found this link. Maybe it’ll help.

Francois, both calculators linked there are often recommended, in fact the second one was mentioned earlier in this thread. I don’t think the page mentions the johnmeyer Excel spreadsheet calculator. A “quick and dirty” table is in his post here. You can compare that with a larger table from jetdv.com/.
While we’re at it, there’s an old (still working) spreadsheet calculator link here. I didn’t try it.
