It was great to hear the different positions between the guitar and the microphone. Directly on the soundhole seemed a bit boxy to me. If you can apply any dynamic EQ, I think it would sound fantastic – I think somewhere around 250Hz-300Hz would be nice, taking off about 3-5dB. I think that the TLM102 just between the soundhole and neck, combined with either a DI (delayed accordingly…say around 1ms or so) or a lavalier style mic clipped just under the soundhole would be a beautiful combo for your guitar.
I enjoyed that position the most, and with a brighter guitar, I think it would lend itself to a nicely balanced tone on the actual recording. Have you tried any Carvin nylon-string acoustics yet? I have been presently surprised each time I’ve heard them. They won’t break the bank, either.
Could you possibly do a take using a song that includes some percussive use of the guitar body? Maybe setting the mic slightly off-axis from the soundhole would keep the boominess away. It seemed a bit beamy in the lower midrange.

As a sound guy, my recommendation is to rent a standalone recorder that you can hook up (with permission) to the FOH console – that is, the sound board that mixes the sound for the audience. You will take the signal from the Direct Output on each channel you want to record and input it into the recorder. You then arm each track for recording, and start recording. Each input is recorded separately.
Common recorders for this purporse are:
Alesis HD24 or HD24XR
Tascam MX2424 (I think…do a search)The sound company who is providing for the show (if it’s not an installed rig) might have one with the console already. Check it out and see what you can do. 🙂

Okay, first off…you want to use the wireless mic kit to take the sound OUT of the PA system, broadcast it wirelessly to the transmitter, and play/record it elsewhere? Is that correct?
If yes, then you’ll need one of these. That, and some XLR-TRS adapters will let you use the output from a mixer and put it INTO the wireless transmitter.
If not, then you need to explain yourself more clearly.

I think they’re alright, but they have their limitations, as a shotgun microphone. Use what you’ve got and upgrade as you get the money and experience to do so.

Well, first, it would REALLY help if you told us what the problem is!
ProTools REQUIRES that a Digidesign interface be plugged into the computer the software is on, otherwise the software will not be able to be used. Plug in the interface that came with the software (an Mbox, Mbox 2, 002, 003R, or whatever it came with) and you will be able to use the software.
It seems to me that, unless you haven’t divulged certain information, you don’t know what you’re doing with ProTools. Are you the one tracking the sessions? If so, I myself would be a little worried.

2. Are you located (or at least filming) in the United States? I would say that it would be fine if the microphone fits your use. If you are shooting one person, then it should be fine. If more than one, then you’ll need another solution.
3. First, realize that anytime you utilize a wireless device, you are subject to whatever OTHER RF is in the area already. Digital Television and the like are all operating on frequencies that were not in use before. You would do well to use Sennheiser’s Frequency Locater for the areas you’ll be in and also know how to adjust things in the field when you realize you’re taking hits. Line-of-sight also plays a big part in RF signal strength.

Well, from the sound of it, the clip sounds like it was just one channel, so reverse-engineering it shouldn’t matter that much. If there are multiple channels with different information on them (other sources in other locations, etc.), then you would want them individually.
Who cares if it takes 6min. to import? Go make some tea, coffee, or hot cocoa and then come back when it’s done. 🙂
I think that the S/N ration might be compromised due to the low level of the audio as it exists on the “mastered” copy of the recording that you have. Maybe you can get the church to send you a copy of the original so you can remaster it FOR THEM (business or ministry opportunity, mayhaps?). Either way, see what you can do and make the best of it! Have fun…

Not unless you have a sound mixer (on location) who is controlling the levels of each microphone as they are recorded. If you do, then they should be able to monitor the feeds and do their job. If not, then yes, you will definitely get bleed from the other voice(s) into the other mic(s). They don’t care whether the person wearing them is talking or silent…they’ll pick up whatever is around then.
There is a solution, and it works very nicely – for sound reinforcement. I don’t know how it would sound, nor have I tried it, in an on-location recording type of setting. Dugan make very nice automixers, however they are the cream-of-the-crop and the price will reflect that. If you are able to spend $X,XXX.XX on video gear, though, why spend around the same amount or just as much to get great audio (I’ve always wondered why people think that way).
Anyways, yeah…use the automation to bring the tracks up/down in level as necessary (at least 1/2 the level for the channel with the less-desirable audio, as that will keep some ambience from both mics in the mix).

The frequency response will be more accurate as the SPL increases and will have less distortion than one with lesser-quality components.
I’ve never used them…maybe someone else here has. Tannoy has a good reputation (as far as I know), so I would think their reference monitors (emphasis on reference) would be precision engineered for as accurate a response as possible for their price range.
