Ok, got it guys. but know when I select a certain media type. For example I have tagged my Voice over = VO for roles. but when i select it, it thinks its dialogue. And clips that are Video/Dialog are highlighted when I click on VO roles in the timeline index. Is this a bug?

You would have a nice little Resolve system. Get yourself a good BMD external video card and your set.

Use the Final Cut XML out of Resolve that way you can always make edit changes during and after your grade. If you need to bake your media and copy grades to a new version of your cut than use Colortrace in Resolve. Just be aware that it won’t copy multiple versions of a grade. Your best bet is an XML workflow though.

Thanks for the insight Clark. I know someone else who uses a Pre-Lut workflow similar to what you’re describing. It’s nice to be able to learn and understand different styles within color workflow.
It’s true, back in the day if you wanted to be a colorist you’d spend many years just being an apprentice or asst. to a senior colorist. This (i’m sure) provided an excellent learning curve. Now, with all these iMac’s and free Resolve apps anyone can learn how to do color. But, it doesn’t necessarily give the experience one needs to be good at it.

Hey Juan, I have been grading the F3 footage without a LUT. Most shots come out great and my client is very happy. However, I noticed on another project were the DP sent us the LUT’s from the shoot that if I graded without the LUT some shots would feel muddy when I tried to stretch the contrast. When I applied the LUT I was able to grade a much cleaner image and get more out of it. I assumed that the LUT was making a mathematical adjust that I was unable to pull from the LOG color space on my own. I felt that in my search to understand color science better, That using a LUT will get you closer to better graded image. Any advice?

I’m having the exact same issue with Resolve 9.1.5 on an iMac with a NVIDIA GTX 680MX 2048MB. Interestingly enough only with two projects that were shot 29.97 in ProRes 422. The other projects I’m working on (23.976 ProRes) do not have this issue. And the crashing only happens when I digg around in the conform page.
Media in the project is all 29.97 either shot on a Red directly to ProRes FilmLog and some GoPro footage that was converted to ProRes.
Only happens to crash on this particular machine as well. Seems to work fine on my other, less powerful iMac.
Any thoughts?

Thanks. The LUT you gave me seems to look best against the other LUT’s I’ve tried. Did you create it? If so which app did you use?

I ran into this problem as well. Did you export the XML from Davinci after you rendered your clips? If not your media won’t re-link to your graded clips.
