Thats the problem with liquid no support.

Its such a good editor but the help files are rubbish and it’s so hard to get answers.

I still cant work out if the sony clip browser is rewriting my timecode when i convert to mxf or if its happening when i import clips into avid liquid.

i think this us used to turn your internal sata hard drives into portable hard drives.

i can forsee you not needing to get a portable hard drive at all.You could just use what ever hard drive is in your computer now and you will not need to transfer footage later. Also it is sata so it is very fast

a reformat is supposed to fix the bad sectors on the card by teaching the memory card where the bad sectors are and going around them. However in my card a simple reformat did not work. The camera rejected the card during the formating when it got to the point on the card with the bad sectors.

I came to fear the phraze “media error”. If this happened during recording i knew i had a dead card in the camera and a total loss of all footage. it did not give me the option to restore media.

Bad sectors are more discreet, You only know if you have a bad sector when you try to copy the memory card to your computer with your footage recorded on it. Or if you play the footage in your camera. What happens is that when the camera or computer reaches the point of the bad sector it immediately rejects the card as if there is nothing there.

All these problems dissapeared when i upgraded my SDHC cards and got something more profesional.

Some SDHC Cards have bad sectors on them. When you record over that bad sector, the actual footage that is recorded in the bad sector will be lost but the footage before and after is still accesable. The trick is too find a way of playing the footage without going over the bad sector. This means to make in and out points before the bad sector and making a new clip in clip browser. If this happens to your memory card it will happen again to that memory card. This happened to me when i was using a sandisk card.

I see you say that it was recorded in progressive mode, but are you editing in progressive mode or in interlased mode?

Just a thought about the faulty SxS card have you by any chance formatted in the incorrect format on your computer. Correct me if i am wrong but i believe it should be the FAT format option. However you should never format on the computer just use the camera it’s safer. And if you are using SDHC cards then try to avoid formatting all together and just go to clip , delete all clips in the menu.

Yes i remember that youtube video. I remember watching it on Discovery and i think the narration mentioned it was a 8 minute video, then i remember wondering how they were going to make a whole hours program out of it.

Discovery operates in a funny way, only using their own producers all the time. I wonder what must of happened to them in the past that led to them being so overprotective now. thanks for the advice on finding a producer. I think i will give that some consideration.
