I’ve produced TV adverts for large multi nationals, web videos for local businesses and on-air promo graphics for most of the major TV networks in New Zealand. I’m very much a typical Kiwi, I can turn my hand to anything, lighting, directing, shooting, editing compositing, colour grading, 3D and motion graphics. I believe with the production industry as it is at the moment it’s important to be flexible, and when you are in a small business, there is no choice. If the budget’s there, there is absolutely no substitute to having a crew of professionals all experienced in their own niche, but when it’s not, you need to be able to improvise. If your skills are varied you also have a better idea of the possibilities and therefore push the creativity. My main focus is on producing video and graphics that surpass the budget and expectations of the client. A good performance can make or break a video, so if I’m shooting I want to get the most engaging performance from my subject and show them in the best possible light.
