May 10, 2006 at 12:11 am in reply to: Illustrator/zaxwerks importing problem clipping masksHi ProdGuy,
Invigorator really only needs filled solid shapes. Any fancy gradients or clipped bit-map art won’t be of value to you, in terms of creating the shapes.
To release a clipping mask Illustrator help suggests you do one of the following:
Select the clipping mask with the selection tool, and choose Object > Clipping Mask > Release.
In the Layers palette, select the target icon or click in the selection column adjacent to the object that you no longer want to use as a clipping mask. Alternatively, you can select the layer or group listing that the clipping mask is located within. Choose Object > Clipping Mask > Release.
Select (highlight) the layer or group listing that you no longer want to use as a clipping mask. Click the Make/Release Clipping Masks button at the bottom of the palette, or choose Release Clipping Mask from the palette menu or Object > Clipping Mask > Release from the application menu.
Because the clipping mask was assigned a fill and stroke value of None, it is now not visible unless you select it or assign it new paint attributes. If you do have some cool gradients or other art you want to keep, you can turn them into bit-mapped images and apply them to the front faces of the appropriate objects.
Does this help?

May 9, 2006 at 3:44 am in reply to: Help Resetting Default Materials and Swatches in Animator 3.02Hi Susan,
The answer depends on what you did to the swatch library. If you changed the hierarchy of the folders or moved the application, that could cause problems. Restoring the correct hierarchy could restore the library.
Also, if you deleted the swatches from the bins, that will remove them from the disk. (You’ll get a warning before you do this.)
In either case, the simplest idea would probably be a clean install.

Hi nightdesigns,
I’d suggest looking seriously at this:
https://www.gridironxfactor.com/products/nucleo_overview.asp
Nucleo allows you to use multiple processors in a single box for rendering After Effects 7.0 projects, which include Invigorator. We were using it on a quad G5 at NAB. I didn’t have time to run comparison tests, but it appears significant gains are possible.

The combined pro and classic docs can be found here:
https://zaxwerks.com/docs.shtml
Please be aware that these are for version 4.0, but the basic modeling and texturing features work the same.
Good luck with your project.

Hi Fred,
It appears you may have the Classic, rather than the Pro version.
You can find a full comparison of the feature sets here:

Make sure the solid to which you’ve applied the invigorator effect is the same size as the comp.
Does this help?

Hi Justin,
Yes, you can use the zxo format to export your watch object. Any object repositioning you do in the setup window, as well as beveling and texturing will be included with the zxo object. However, any keyframes you created for set animation or set position won’t be included. If the animation work you may have done is important to you, you should use one of the other methods, which do preserve any keyframes you’ve created. If not, zxo is a great choice.

Hi Justin,
The answer depends on how much you want him or her to be able to change.
You can send the ae project file alone. It will allow your co-worker to change bevels, depth and materials on the Invigorator watch you’ve built. It will not let the person change the Illustrator shapes that were the basis for the watch.
If you think he’ll need to change the Illustrator file, send that too. Otherwise, he won’t be able to make changes and reload layers. (I hope you built the watch in layers.)
Another way to do it is to save the Invigorator effect as a favorite (in 6.0). It’s called saving an animation preset in 6.5 and up. The person you send it to can set up his own project, add a solid and apply the favorite to get the Invigorator effect applied to the layer. You’ll have to send the Illustrator file too, if you want the person to have the ability to change it.
Doe this help?

Hi Julian,
Yes, it can be done. You need to think about the most efficient way to break the model down into basic, extruded and beveled shapes. You’ll probably have quite a lot of parts.
People have done other video cameras using Invigorator. The only limit is the amount of time and creativity you have available.

Hi Jay,
The map image for the baseball needs to be made in a 2 wide by 1 high aspect ratio.
Serge’s InvigoMany DVD has one that looks great. Check it out at the top of the postings.
Otherwise, you might find a usable baseball texture at 3dcafe.com.
