I’ve read some of those posts in the AE forum and pretty much have my answer now.
While I’m asking, do you know:
How close wondertouch is to an AE plugin?
How well the PI presets work within Motion’s particle system? I read something about that on the wondertouch website, but don’t have experience with Motion.

You can also make a tunnel shape in Invigorator or ProAminator and fly through that. Use layer mapping to apply a movie or a precomp to the tunnel wall if you want an even more dramatic effect. Hint: sometimes, it’s actually easier to move the tunnel object than the camera.

Hi df,
UV mapping refers to a coordinate-based system for applying a 2D image to a 3D object. It can be very precise and is especially useful for mapping images to organic shapes.
The U and V refer to coordinates on the image, which are linked to specific locations on the 3D object, which are defined in X,Y and Z directions in 3d space. The methods for setting this up vary by the application used to model the object.
UV mappping is just one way of mapping images to objects. Many 3D apps support spherical, cylindrical and other methods… but so far as Invigorator or ProAnimator go, you need to set up UV mapping in the modeling application used, and include that data with the model, in a supported format.

Hi Dan,
Invigorator’s recipe for chrome starts with a black material, to which a reflection map is applied. Reflectivity is very high – 100 percent in the default chrome material that comes with Invigorator. A bright, fairly tight highlight is also part of the chrome material.
The blue you’re seeing is in the reflection map… you might think of it representing the sky. Choose a different reflection map without blue and it’ll go away. I would suggest creating or finding a reflection map representative of the environment your object will inhabit. If your chrome isn’t polished to a mirror-like finish, you might add a subtle bump map, but that’s up to you.

Hi Dave,
The tree model must include UV mapping data when you import it. It’s best to figure out your image mapping in the app where you created the tree. With UV data on the model, you can apply a texture map to the model by using the material editor. Create a new material, use the top thumbnail to choose the image. Drag the material ball onto the tree.

The key is rotating the pole as you’ve said, The flag will follow it. Simply decide how you want the pole to rotate (in the x, y or z direction) and set a couple of keyframes. If you get stuck, let us know.

Hi Julian,
The animated ribbon needs to enter and leave the ribbon layermap more than once over time to appear to wrap around the cylinder more than once. The point where the ribbon leaves on one side and where it enters on the other need to match so it’ll be seamless.
As for the person in the middle of the wrapping ribbon, you could create a simple rectangular plane and layermap the movie of the person to the front face of the plane. You’ll need to generate an alpha channel for that movie for it to work. So long as the plane stays oriented to the camera, it should be fine.
