Alex,
I tried sending you files but your email bounced as being over quota.
The short version of the story – the autotraced art comes with its share of problems. You need to reduce it to basic filled shapes and solid colors, then map a tga version of all of those gradients to the resulting shape(s.)
It took a while, but I created a layered Illustrator doc with the basic outline of the shape on one layer and all of the black “outlines” in another layer. you can break things down further if you want to add more levels of thickness or depth.

Alex,
One thing to remember – all of the objects come into Invigorator at the same default position on the Z axis. You’ll need to select individual objects in the set-up window and move them forward or backward on the Z axis.
If you want to send me a file, I’ll take a look at it… but do save it in an earlier format. I don’t have CS3 yet. jokerstrom1 (at) mac (dot) com.

Okay. I got it to work.
What I see is a pinching of the image at the polar coordinates (top and bottom of the sphere). Is that what you’re talking about?
You can minimize that problem by distorting the image in the opposite way… I’ve found a freeware photoshop plug-in for Windows that fixes this…. if you’re interested, google the words spherical mapping corrector.
I’m also certain there are other ways to do this, no matter which platform you’re on.
Does this help?

Alex,
My hunch is that live trace is drawing around the white background of your logo and creating what Invigorator interprets as a compound path.
Try selecting the area outside your logo and deleting the rectangle shape.

Hi Jim,
The link won’t let me see the image.

Sure. I’d be happy to look at it. I only need the AE project file, no supporting files.

Hi cosm44,
What about your technique doesn’t work?
Create a layer on which the grayscale color animates from white (opaque) to black (transparent). Put that layer in a precomp. Designate that precomp as a layermap in Invigorator. Apply the layermap to the transparency channel of a material. Apply that material to the object.
That should work. Did you – or I – miss a step?

Hi Mark,
You can group any number of objects together in what are called sets. Think of sets as invisible containers.
When you animate, you control the movement of the sets rather than individual objects.
The only caveat – the number of available sets is limited, so if you want to individually animate lots of lego blocks you might have to use multiple instances of the Invigorator effect.

Sure thing.
If you want to make it look like a logo in relief, make a black and white version of the logo, save it as a tga, create a material in Invigorator and apply the logo in the bump map channel.
If you need help, let us know.

Hi Mark,
Break down the lego block to primative shapes – the 5 sided cube and short cylinders for the “bumps” on the top. Put everything in the same set so all the parts stay together.
