Well I do need to upgrade my computer, but I’m not sure that’s the problem. This version of TMPGEnc was out when my system was still considered ample. It happens rarely, and I usually find that if I re-boot, it will sail through without problems. 3G Athlon (single core tho), 1G RAM, files are DV-AVI, so 720×480. V 2.521.58.169, i may need to upgrade that, I will check. Thanks for any response, does this give you any other thoughts?

To be clear, I’m using 2-pass VBR, so at the half-way point, no encoding has been done, only the analysis. The log is created as the first pass analysis is happening.

V 2.5 Plus. Well, I THINK that the log file is a record of the first pass analysis. In other words, its encoding decisions are recorded there. Cinemacraft, for example, calls it a vaf file. Looking at the file, that’s what it looks like. So someone correct me if I’m wrong. But if I’m right, then one can see why I want to do this. On a 1 hr file, it can take 1 to 2 hrs (depending on filters) to do that first pass.
